Valencia, Spain So, I had briefly been to Valencia earlier in my travels when I was visiting Pablo in Benicassim. We were only in Valencia for a few hours though, we just drove through the city and saw Pablo's apartment. We also had lunch and did some shopping. This time we did more touristy things. But... I almost missed my flight here!!!! Well, not quite but I was cutting it close. I was a little disoriented after our game on saturday and so I momentarily forgot which terminal I usually fly out of with Ryan air and easyjet, which are in terminal one. And it didn't say it on my boardig pass. So I got off the metro between the two terminal stops and was really stressing for a second then finally asked someone. The walk ... read more

So yesterday Spain had their second holiday in two weeks. GO SPAIN!!! In reference to the pool being closed on this holiday, my coach said p*** piscina. However, its not their fault its a holiday! Its Spain. So crazy. It was only a holiday in Madrid though, it was the day of their patron saint, Saint Almudena. It was supposed to rain in Madrid, and everything was going to be closed, so I peaced out! There are so many towns around Madrid that I want to go to, but I decided to go to Cuenca. It was a two hour bus ride away. The train took the same amount of time but was more expensive. Kelsey was visiting me, but she was going to Cordoba and Malaga, much further away and way too expensive!! I woke ... read more

Last night the Giants won the world series. I went to bed at 11 pm Madrid time cause I was tired. Lizzie woke me up at 4 am to tell me they won. It was exciting for 2 minutes. Wooooo Giants! Then I went back to bed. And this morning it sucks cause I missed the best party!!!!! I'm pretty bummed I'm not in San Francisco right now. I have the worst timing EVERRRR!!! In San Francisco when Spain wins the world cup. And then in Spain when the Giants win the World Series. Claro que si. Happy Birthday Mama!!! Today you are 57 :) I can't seem to escape construction. There was construction at I-House for the 12 months that I lived in that room, and then of course I come to Madrid and there ... read more

Me getting to Madrid was a mess! Went to the wrong airport in Milan. Went to bergamo instead of malpensa because I had been looking at flights from bergamo because my Magi & Giulia told me to look there for flights. However, I ended up buying a flight from malpensa because it was cheaper. But anyways Magi and Giulia just told me that day, oh your flight is from bergamo we will drop you at the main train station and then you take the bus to BERGAMO. And I listened... I had even checked my flight time before we left but didn't check the airport. So I took the bus to Bergamo and when I got there it didn't feel quite right and I checked for my flight and couldn't find it...finally realized that easyjet did ... read more

Ciao Tutti! Sooo my time spent in Taormina was awesome. Phoebe and I were picked up in the airport in Catania by a nice italian guy that gave us lots of recommendations for places to go and eat and things to do. We got to our apartment and were so surprised! It was so nice. Very spacious. Taormina is a beautiful more resorty slash touristy town on the coast of Sicily. It is situated high up on a cliff, so we have beautiful panoramas of the ocean and of mt. etna as well. My apartment also has a great view and I watched many sunsets from there. so here I am doing an italian language course, just for two hours a day. i am only doing it for two weeks, so just a short time, but ... read more

Florence SO apparently we are all about stairs here in Florence. There is about 8 flights of stairs to get up to my apartment, plus 8 flights of stairs to get up to the school. Sooo thats a lot of stairs. And no one uses elevators here because they are small and sketchy. We had also been going to Forte Belvedere a lot at night because there is a bar up there. That involves lots of walking up hill and lots of stairs! And then on that Sunday, in Lucca, we climbed up the stairs of two towers. And in Pisa I climbed the leaning tower... On Monday we hiked up to Piazzale Michelangelo on the other side of the Arno. It was a steep hike uphill plus some stairs! CEA led this short hike, then ... read more

Florence Woooow so I am really behind on this! I've only been in Florence for two weeks but I have done so much already and been so many places! And of course seen lots of art! After finally arriving here, we had two days of orientation. Extremely boring! Luckily I got to get out of some of the most boring parts because I had already done the orientation in Rome. But so many of the people here are from California! Or at least they go to Cal Poly. Definitely a change from Rome, where there was only one other girl from California! There are also more people here in the program though. I really like all my roommates though. Four of them go to Cal Poly and one of them goes to Cal, but I didn't ... read more

Athens So I made it to Athens fine, in one piece! I actually met lots of nice people that spoke English on the way there, that were Greek, and so they told me lots of good stuff to do in Athens and when I got to Mykonos. I took a bus from the airport which was simple, but then from the bus station had quite a walk to my apartment...that was fun dragging all my luggage! I made the mistake of buying wine when I was in Verona...haha not too smart now I have to drag it all over Europe! Oh well I can deal. Found my cute little hostel eventually though. Me and Ari caught up for a while and then napped then played with the kittens that were at the hostel and then took ... read more

Catania Continued...And the last of Rome! The next day, Saturday, Jenn and I went to Museo dello Sbarco. This is a museum about the U.S. invasion in Sicily during WW2. This museum was very expansive and detailed. Jenn was a little happy that we were up so early, but she did want to go. Haha. A guide took us around for a bit after they showed us an introductory movie, and he explained a lot of stuff to us. It was in Italian though so I had to translate for Jenn. There was a bombing simulation that we also did. Dad I think you wouldve spent about 3 days in this museum.........there were descriptions of all the weapons, all the tactics, everything! With lots of pictures and artifacts and models and explanations...however it was all in ... read more
