2 wounds I went to the Gallepagos back in March of 2006. One day while on the beach while I was getting to go out and do some snorkeling, a sea lion came up and bit into my upper thigh. Two huge wounds--about 3-4" long and 3-4" deep that took about 4 months to heal. I am extremely lucky--no major arteries hit, had a bit of flesh eating bacteria and I now have a big dip in the leg with some lovely scars.
Thank you! Thank you for sharing your experiences on the net! You don't know how much this helps when your child comes home from school with homework to describe their experience of walking through the rainforest when you and they have never been!
Thanks Again!

We were part of a group of veterinarians from UC Davis. The animals are not so much "tame" as they are "accepting" of humans in their environment. Seriously though, if you went to touch one of the sea lions, you would have had a serious bite to contend with. Several of us had a problem with the Beachmaster on one of the islands.
My husband and I went on the same boat. The crew was expetionally courteous. They treated us like royalty. How did you guys find out about the tours? We went through www.galapagos-inc.com and they booked everything for us. If you ever go down that way again, you should check them out. Isn't it amazing how tame the wildlife is? We had an amazing time and it looked like you guys did too.
I am slowly starting to think Indian Jones was nothing more that a glorified Boy Scout. Amazing write up Lisa. I am following you guys on this trip and I am following 2 friends on a 10,000 mile motorcycle trip up to the Arctic Ocean and back to the valley via Alaska. I am having one hack of a 2008 Staycation! Thanks!
I love the photos I just went through all the blogs and see photos---don't know if they were there before--or you added them, but I love them!!!
You look like your having a blast and you guys have such great smiles!!

WOW This is my favorite write up so far! GOSH, I LOVE fossils (not many people know that about me), this is just amazing.
If you find something are you allowed to bring it back? (shark tooth?)
Love the photos---So educational and informative. SO glad your sharing your thoughts.
cultural references Suburban breeder alert: David asked "what is Easter Island?" and the best way I could explain it was from one of the kids' cartoons (The Backyardigans). We don't get out much.
Great social commentary. Mrs. Hanley would be proud!
Pina Colada How funny, I had this HUGE Pina Colada urge the other day and could almost smell it!! That is my FAVORITE drink! Thanks woman for thinking of me while you were enjoying it---the thoughts made it here to US soil!! ha ha ha.
I can't wait to see photos and now I want to learn more too! Sounds amazing!! I almost feel like I'm there, the way you write! You are doing an amazing job and educating me at the same time! Sounds like a dream trip!
So, would you go back there? I think I saw a documentary a few months ago on the Discovery channel.

Hi! My name is Lisa and I love to travel to experience other cultures and have fun doing the unexpected along the way. I love ancient history and archaeology (particularly of the Egypt and Levant). I am a bit of an amatuer photographer, last year I got a D-300 and had to learn to use it on our trip to the Galapagos. I had a horrible time, then I found out my problem, my lens was malfunctioning! I have spent a fair amount of traveling before I started this blog, with trips to Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, England, Belize, Guatamala, Mexico, China (Mainland and H... full info
