Geo: -23.926, 31.4209Early morning. Depart lodge at 5:30am. Arrive airport by 7:00. We have a couple of hours to waste in OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg before heading to Skukuza our gateway to Kruger. Uneventful trip to Lions Sands Reserve in Kruger. We arrived in time for the afternoon game drive. Again we found lions. It was a hard time getting to them this time. Over VERY rocky and rough terrain. There were two males and a female. Dinner was served in the wild under the stars. A very nice start.... read more

Geo: -24.0264, 31.4648Happy September everyone. Our morning drive was pleasant temperature wise. Day one was very cold but got hot in the afternoon. The temps moderated for the entire day but was windy. We tried to find the hippos. No luck. Of course we found the female lion. We had great luck with that cats. We were on our way back to the lodge and there she was. If we were heading the other way, we would not have spotted her. We pulled in to view her and she decided she needed a better view of the impala. She walked straight towards us. I don't think she realizes we are there. She was fixed on the impala. Too far to see a kill. After our morning game drive, our group & guide did a boat tour ... read more

Geo: -33.562, 26.6418We will be doing 4 drives in total. On our second drive we had a great experience with elephants. The majority of the group came up and walked right past our vehicle walking within a few feet of us. They didn't even notice us. We then found the lions. Two males. They were just lazing around being cats. Got some nice photos of one of them. The other wasn't in a good spot. I had better eyes than the guide on this one. I found them both first. Wifi is not great. Slow and kicking me off but I keep trying to keep you up to date with what we see. Hope you are enjoying them. Sharon's now happy that we saw the cats in the wild.... read more

Geo: -33.562, 26.6418From Knysna, we drove through Tsitsikamma Park. Stopped for a nice walk along a path over suspension bridges. Another stop at a tree about 980 years old. Met up with our driver and made the final drive to Kariega. The times arranged didn't allow us to make the evening game drive. Up at 6:30 for our first one. Saw a wide variety. Another one at 3:30. It is hot finally as expected during the day. Chilly at night and morning. It's about 102 today.... read more

Geo: -34.0405, 23.0719Our first stop today were the Cango Caves. Yes CAVES! Not the desert that we expected in Africa. Next we stopped at Cango Wildlife Ranch. They are into conservation. After our tour, we decided to get close up and personal with 3 nine month old cheetah. We continued to Knysna. The Indian Ocean is now the coast. These are considered wetlands. More on that tomorrow after our tour.... read more

Geo: -33.5928, 22.2025Mainly a driving day for our driver, we just sit back and enjoy the scenery. We were amazed! We didn't expect to see the mountainous terrain, the gorges, etc. The pictures don't do it justice. We said we could be in Colorado or other place with typical mountain driving. Didn't expect it. The route was called "62". Expressways are doing the same to this route as 66 in the states. Glad we did this route. In the afternoon we stopped at an ostrich farm. Very interesting. Sharon was able to sit on one. There is a 70 kg limit so I was just over! For the kids, you can ride one too. There was a family from England and two of the daughters rode so I recorded one.We also had ostrich for dinner. It doesn't ... read more

Geo: -33.916, 18.4222Our first day of the organized tours we booked. Headed south to Hout Bay. Over Chapman's Peak drive to Fish Hoek. Continued to Simons Town to see penguins. Called "Jackass" because they sound like donkeys. (You can't everything up!). Then to the Cape. We have now been to both Cape Horn (South America) and now Cape of Good Hope (Africa). Not too many people can claim that. We are very lucky! Stopped at Groot Constantia for a wine tasting on the way home.... read more
