Hi Everyone, we have been back in Melbourne for nearly two weeks now. Apologies for the delay in the blog, here is the last two weeks of our holiday, enjoy! Sunday 1st April – Mui Ne At 2am we were dropped off on the side of the road in Mui Ne after a 6 hour trip on the sleeper bus where you are designated beds instead of seats. We were in the middle of a typhoon and it was pouring with rain as we made our way down what we assumed could only be the main street. Once we found a backpackers we were able to check in, have hot showers and jump into a warm and dry bed! We slept till around 10 am and woke up to persistent rain. We were keen to get ... read more

Wednesday 21stMarch – Siem Reap Today is day one of our two day tour around Angkor which we have organised through our taxi driver that picked us up from the airport yesterday. We are picked up by our tuk tuk driver at 5am and head off into the darkness, we stop at the ticketing booth outside of Angkor Wat where we have our mugshots taken and printed onto our three day pass, this is done to ensure no ticket sharing takes place. We then make our way to Angkor Wat where a large crowd has gathered to await the sunrise directly above the temple. The sunrise is spectacular over Angkor Wat which is the largest religious structure in the world, once we have snapped a few pics and the sun is up we head back ... read more

Friday 9thMarch – Gibbons Experience (Bokeo Nature Reserve) Laos We arrived at the Gibbons office at 8.30. From Huay Xai to the Bokeo National Park was a 2 hour drive on road and 40 minute drive off-road in a hilux ute with 11 people on it. We arrived at the village where we met our guides and started our trek around lunch time. We trekked for three hours over a few mountains and through bamboo dominant forest before we reached a waterfall where we made the most of the cool temperatures and flying fox into the water. The first treehut where we spent our first night was only a 10 minute walk from the waterfall which with spectacular views had a separate shower and toilet and 4 mosquito nets for us to sleep under. Once we ... read more

Saturday 3rdMarch – Bangkok Today we spent the day cruising around Bangkok. We went to the end of the sky-train line to Mo- Chit and visited the Chatuchak Market which is the mother of all markets. It sprawls over a huge area with tens of thousands of stalls and hundreds of thousands of visitors a day. Everything is sold here, from live chickens and snakes to handicrafts and antiques as well as huge piles of clothes, beer and hawker stalls. That evening we got on the overnight bus once again (complete with you own hostess, snacks, surround sounds in your seat and massaging chairs) and travelled 10 hours up to Chiang Mai. Sunday 4th March – Chiang Mai We arrived in Chiang Mai which is a cultural darling: it is a cool place to kick back ... read more

Tuesday 28thFebruary – Phuket/Patong Beach What a night! We had a massive night on the main street and finished up in the wee hours with a few beers on the beach. We hung out with a couple from Finland and an Aussie couple which was pretty good value, we spent the night being swayed into shooters with the very friendly bar staff, dancing on the bar and spotting the ‘silicone’. After a late checkout the next morning we headed back to Patong Beach where we hired beach chairs and dozed and swam for the afternoon. 5pm rolled around pretty quick and before we knew it we were on the over night bus to Bangkok which took 12 hours. Wednesday 29th February – Bangkok We arrived in Bangkok at 6am on happy leap year day! The bus ... read more

Day 11 of our honeymoon and we probably haven’t been as diligent at this blogging as we should have. We have had an amazing first 11 days of our trip and are now into the groove of backpacking. Our first 5 nights were spent in Ko Samui at Impiana Resort for our ‘honeymoon’. Saturday 18th February – Ko Samui After an early flight from Phuket and check in we spent the day down at the beach bar in the rain, it was a good excuse to do nothing and plan our next five days. Sunday 19th February – Ko Samui We hired a scooter and went cruising the island at our own pace. We stopped at many sights along the way, including a half hour jungle hike to Hin Lat waterfall, as well as visiting ... read more
