Periorbital edema?

Fascinating
Reading your travel blog has been a truly fascinating experience. What are your plans for keepsake memories? 20-volume scrapbook sorted alphabetically? Documentary? Internationally renown Emmy-winning Powerpoint presentation?

Not a crane...
I think that's a Great Blue. Heron. Which might technically be from the crane family. But it has Great Blue markings.

More Awesome Adventures on the Bayou
Homeless guys and hard partying aren't all we're about down here (although those are doubtlessly important facets!). There's tons to do, especially right now - next time you pass through, check out some great events, cuisine, music, and places to stay in those little towns and in the bigger cities too at www.countryroadsmag.com !

It definitely is. You can look the company up on the web, and they have contracts to build LCVs. The pictures you can see of the design will confirm it too.

LCV
Strange looking ship. I'll be interested in seeing if your guess as to what it is is right.

Cotton, apparently.

state house
I see what you mean about the state house. I like the older one better. The dome is spectacular.

plantation
Did they grow rice or cotton at this plantation? Sounds like the land is more suited to rice.

I am liking the Astro-McDonalds

I guess I never really paid much attention to them.

white flower
I don't mind you not knowing all the flowers, they are still beautiful to look at and when we're still looking at snow and brown grass it's nice to see. I do find it funny though that after years of seeing churches decorated with Easter lilies on Easter you didn't recognize that one in New Braunfels.

LOL
I truely laughed out loud upon seeing those last two pictures. You guys are great. Night.

Nice
Excellent pictures and blog. I love living in the Black Hills.

Jumping over flowing water
Hopefully one day you two will fully realize the extent to which leaving marked trails only results in difficulty crossing flowing water. Although I do have to give Onaxthiel some credit, that looks like one heck of a "jump."

Palo Duro Canyon
It looks like an interesting place to hike. Very pretty. Love, Mom

mountain goats
Finally there are mountain goats. I thought for sure you'd be lucky enough to see them up in the northern states as you hiked in the mountains, but at least you got to see a fairly good size herd. Loved the Claret Cup cactus flower. Spring must be the time to visit the southwestern deserts. Love, Mom

hugging cactus
You grew up with a little barrel cactus in the house. Don't you remember getting tiny spines in your finger? What do you mean by hugging cactus? Loved the pictures of the desert in spring though. Love, Mom

Strange Coincidences
Wow, that is pretty amazing.... maybe even a little scary. Plus I had no idea that Onaxthiel was such a common name.

History repeats
The question now is whether you can pinpoint the era when the petroglyphic media started putting the Page Two celebrities onto Page One of the Newspaper Rock and then try to find the independent liberal newspaper pebbles complaining about the devolution of "The Big News Rock" media.

To Obfuscator and Onaxthiel's Mom
It's okay, I don't think it was really your influence. What I didn't mention in my rebuttal was that it was a Friday night, which is a notoriously difficult night to eat out in that area of the city. Also we really did have a good time overall (although I must admit for a little bit there I was significantly worried that Onaxthiel was looking pretty grumpy). If I had the time to add my own lessons learned section it would go something like this: 1) Banana slugs are everywhere (imagine me having lived here for almost two years and not noticed them before) 2) It's good to get a full night's sleep especially if you are going hiking the next day 3) If you plan on going out to eat with Obfuscator and Onaxthiel on a Friday night in a big city, plan ahead and go someplace that take reservations

Honestly, there just didn't seem to be anything there worth stopping for.

I got it. I would question who would be crazy enough to drive *away* from Las Vegas, however. ;-)

From Blog: Day 190

Well, we actually paid the $7 parking, since we were coming from the Nevada side. We didn't discover the free parking until we were on our way out from the Hoover Dam, going into Arizona. I don't know how we avoided the traffic on a Sunday. We did get there fairly early in the morning, and were out of there by maybe early afternoon? The traffic could definitely be a good reason to park on the Nevada side, but only if you're coming from that side already anyway, right?
