Is it really necessary to call it a stupid animal? It's not like it jumped into the pit on purpose, maybe it was chased in, fell in, or knew it was going to die and wanted to preserve its body for scientific study.. Nice preservation, though.

Rattlesnake Bomber Base Pictures
Thank you for posting this commentary with the pictures. I've seen this facility on Google Earth and have been curious about it. Your pictures answered somme of the questions in my mind about this place. I appreciate your efforts. Woody Lawson

explanation of "mysterious preacher"
I just happened upon your blog about your trip to Birmingham. Hope you enjoyed your visit! As a lifelong resident of Birmingham, I wanted to add a note about the "mysterious preacher". That is a statue of Brother Bryan, a Presbyterian minister in the first half of the 20th century. He established Third Presbyterian Church on southside, and his successor, James Cantrell, was brought to Christ by Brother Bryan. I grew up in that church, and remember "Brother Jimmy" telling us that Brother Bryan would pay him a quarter to attend church. The bribes worked, and Brother Jimmy was as beloved, if not quite as famous, as Brother Bryan. You can read more about him on Wikipedia. Best Regards, bp

Fascinating
Reading your travel blog has been a truly fascinating experience. What are your plans for keepsake memories? 20-volume scrapbook sorted alphabetically? Documentary? Internationally renown Emmy-winning Powerpoint presentation?

Not a crane...
I think that's a Great Blue. Heron. Which might technically be from the crane family. But it has Great Blue markings.

More Awesome Adventures on the Bayou
Homeless guys and hard partying aren't all we're about down here (although those are doubtlessly important facets!). There's tons to do, especially right now - next time you pass through, check out some great events, cuisine, music, and places to stay in those little towns and in the bigger cities too at www.countryroadsmag.com !

It definitely is. You can look the company up on the web, and they have contracts to build LCVs. The pictures you can see of the design will confirm it too.

Strange looking ship. I'll be interested in seeing if your guess as to what it is is right.

I see what you mean about the state house. I like the older one better. The dome is spectacular.

plantation
Did they grow rice or cotton at this plantation? Sounds like the land is more suited to rice.

white flower
I don't mind you not knowing all the flowers, they are still beautiful to look at and when we're still looking at snow and brown grass it's nice to see. I do find it funny though that after years of seeing churches decorated with Easter lilies on Easter you didn't recognize that one in New Braunfels.

Jumping over flowing water
Hopefully one day you two will fully realize the extent to which leaving marked trails only results in difficulty crossing flowing water. Although I do have to give Onaxthiel some credit, that looks like one heck of a "jump."
