Ohnmar and Damien

I'm Australian with Burmese heritage and I spent a year travelling with my boyfriend in 03/04 after university, it was the most amazing year, I learnt so much about myself, we learnt so much about each other, there were critical moments during our travels were it was make or break, but we made it. It’s safe to say that we were well and truly infected by the travel bug.

5 years later we are doing it again, this time as husband and wife. However, the trade-off seems much greater this time. We sold my husbands successful business and I left my well paying job, our homes have now become investment properties and despite what people may think we truly believe that if you want to do something there is always a way it can be done. Just because you are married with a mortgage doesn't mean you can't live your dreams to travel the world. We admire anyone who can release themselves from the everyday and take the first steps to self-discovery, to immerse themselves in different cultures and just travel the world. I don't believe we have pressed the 'pause button' on our lives, instead we are now living our lives and the best thing is when we do decide to go home, we have a clean slate and a new beginning to look forward to.

Our last trip was for a year 2003 - 2004, we worked 6 months at a ski resort in Mt. Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, then travelled around Eastern Canada to New York City. From North America we made our way to Europe. London was our first stop, we worked, lived and played in London for 3 months and then did a Bus-About tour around Italy, The Greek Islands & Spain. We also did a few side trips to to Paris to visit Damien's family as well as to the Ardeche in the South of France and a Backpacker tour to Pamplona, Spain for the running of the bulls festival. On our way back to Australia we relaxed on the islands of Thailand, which was definately one of my favourite parts of the trip.

It's 2010 now and we have spent the last 8 months working in Banff, Alberta Canada. From here we are going to play it by ear, we have plans to do an epic road trip around the United States, another winter season in Whistler, then we plan to travel South America before heading back to Europe to explore countries like Croatia, Turkey, Jordan and Portugal as well as back to some of our favourite places to visit friends and family.

I see my path but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it. - Rosalia de Castro

BOGOTA! Well after an exhasting two days of travelling, loosing a brand new Olympus Camera which was never used, and an 8 hour overnight transit in Miami where we slept on the floor - we had made it to the Bogota International Airport, little did we know that our Spanish was no where up to scratch to get us around in the first instance - Thank goodness we had family to help us. As we exited the airport we were warmly greeted by Fernando, Flor and Maria. They had made a sign with our names on it and bought me a bunch of flowers, this was THE BEST welcome we could have asked for after such a disasterous start to the trip. Needless to say, we were both devasted at loosing our new camera but grateful ... read more

Totally addicted to snowboarding..... I've snowboarded for a season before on the East Coast of Canada at Mont Tremblant, Quebec, but this season snowboarding Sunshine and Lake Louise was way better than what I could have expected. I bought a brand new snowboard and heading out with my friends to Sunshine/Lake Louise was something I looked forward to every week. Here are some photos of our Winter Season. ... read more

We arrived in Banff in May 2009 and boy what an awesome summer it was... After our Moose Tour from Vancouver to Banff and countless nights of drinking and seeing new sights we had arrived in our new home town of Banff, were we would be for the next year. Working and living at the Rimrock has had its ups and downs, but has funded our working holiday so far. Ohnmar: I was never really too interested in summer in Canada, how good can it be? I was never really into hiking but after the first few weeks in Banff I had found a new passion for cycling, hiking and exploring the outdoors. Between May and October we spend many days exploring the local area. We went cycling around the Vermillion Lakes and Lake Minnewanka. ... read more

Ohnmar: Gosh, it was an early start to the day especially when I worked until 11pm the night before. The bus left at 6:45am this morning and I was really excited about snowboarding another mountain. I had been checking the website for the last week anticipating snowfall, and last night it snowed 5cm, just enough champagne powder to make it a fun day. The drive took a couple of hours and the road conditions were pretty good so there were no delays. I slept most of the way on the bus. When we arrived at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort it was a cloudy day with not much sunlight from the base of the resort. I had booked into a group lesson for $89 for two hours, went to the snow school at 9:45am and to my ... read more

So, after 3 months into our working holiday in Banff, we decided to rent a car and take some time out to drive one of the most scenic drives in the world - The Icefields Parkway. The Icefields Parkway is 230 kms of pristine scenery, even though we went in August which is the height of summer there were still some mountains which were dotted with white, little pockets where glaciers have formed over many years. Ordinarily, it would only take about 3 hours for the drive, but we took our time and spent 9 hours on the road. We stopped at several waterfalls and canyons and hiked around admiring the scenery, flora and fauna. Our first pit stop was the Bow Lake.(pictured to the right) Then after a few pictures we headed to our next ... read more
