I was so ill following a trip to India in 1994, that - at the time - I vowed I would never go back. Fortunately, I got better and 14 years later, decided that it was high time to give the sub-continent another chance. We also decided that we would do things differently this time; try to visit some places we had missed on that earlier trip, put down temporary roots, get a job perhaps and generally get to know the country better. So, sticking to a relatively small area, we spent the best part of 5-months getting on more intimate terms with the states of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Would we hack it this time?
