wow! I had friends that lives in squater areas when I was a young child in the Philippines and I'm happy that they are my friends. It made me see that all human life go through hardship differently. Some people may be rich but sad and end up killing themselves. Some people who are dirt poor do the best to make a living and keeps their family together. I guess its how we face life. We just have to face it head on and keep on smiling no matter what happens.

Fascinating "As we were walking back, some of the football players, after finding out that I was not a journalist, asked to be snapped (photographed). Some people really like being snapped, others do not. "
I found this part interesting - that people only wanted to be photographed by non-journalists. What stigma do journalists have there - perhaps they have abused their welcome?
Sounds cool... Another great blog Nikster, you seem to be enjoying yourself once again!
Amsterdam misses you however, don't even dare to change your return ticket...
Any TukTuks around?! ;-)

Veel liefs,

Lovely! I love hearing your updates! The cross-cultural exchange, the natural beauty, and immersing yourself in another culture makes me all itchy to travel again. Also, while they might not have too many tourists, I'm sure they have a lot of women so why do they call you white man!? And if I fly over there to visit you, will I blow their minds being an Asian?
Nik, how come the NGO workers and expats have to live in the west away from the locals? Salone sounds fascinating. Are you getting a lot of work done? Keep us posted. We love reading about everything! <3
