Out of Africa
Nikki, Hope you found the right park. It's kind of funny to hear you are gong to the zoo after living with the animals like you have. It just goes to show how much you love all the animals. You will probably have a great time at the zoo in Madrid showing your mom and Jamie all the animals you have been working with. Hope your flight goes great and you guys meet up with out to much trouble. Love you and have a great time being a regular tourist, Dad and Cheryl

Well I am writing this but I may be standing next to you when you get to read it. If so stand up and give me a hug. I am bringing you moisturizer and a watch. Hope you are having fun on your safari and enjoying the breathtaking views of the canyon. Don't let any animals come into your treehouse at night. You will make even more friends this week from around the world so enjoy! I can't wait to read your journal entries. Love You XOXOXOXO Mom

Nice Pics
Nice pictures you have there. Can't wait to see the rest. This is going to be short because I emailed you earlier today so won't be long. The cheetahs look cool though. While you were on your sleep out did they pee on you like you read they would? You probably won't say even if they did would you. Love you, Mat

Enjoy it to the end
Nikki, I understand the homesickness, you are a long way from home. But soon you'll be a tourist with your mom and sister and it will seem like a dream. Just make sure you take lots of pictures and movies ( I know you've heard that before ) to remenber it all. A year from now you won't believe all the little things you will forget about . Love you and can't wait to get you home so you can show us everything. Dad and Cheryl

Glad to hear everything is going great. Too bad about the donkeys though, why did they do that? Were they to feed some of the animals? Everything is the same here, not much else is new. Missing you, but I know your having a good time so I couldn't be happier for you. I have been doing a lot of thinking as of late, and I know I said no animals, but, if you want to bring home a baby cheetah, that is ok with me. Can't wait to hear from you again. I would talk more but I haven't really done anything else. I miss you tons hun and I hope that the rest of your time there in Harnes is something to remember. I love you. Mat

Hi Nikki, Don't worry about being homesick, soon you will be back and it will seem like you weren't even gone. So just enjoy what little time you have left. Are you running out of batteries yet? I can't believe it is almost time for us to come meet you. I am getting nervous but excited at the same time. And you know me I will wait till the last minute to get anything ready. I read your blogs to Gramma and she says hi! And so does Elvis:) Same ol stuff here. Have you gotten any of the cards I tried to send you? I am only going to be at work 5 more days before I leave. I had to look up what a blesbok was. Love hearing from you and will see you in less than 2 weeks! Love You So Much XOXOXO Mom, Mark and Kyle

Hey hun, Glad to hear everything is going good. I just responded to the email you wrote me, so this little message here is not going to be all that great. Also, glad to hear that you are making lots of friends over there, sounds like you are having a blast. I know I say it every time I write but don't forget to take lots of pictures. We are going to need them if you are going to make your picture novel this time instead of a book. Looking forward to your return and the days after hearing about all the exciting things you got to do. Aren't you glad you got to go on such and adventure. Love you Mat

no catchy title for this one
It sounds like you are having lots of fun. I am really glad that you did all of this. Don't forget to take pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. I hope you are, how is the Wolverine working over there? I hope all the pictures are transferring ok. We haven't been up to much here. Rented some movies, work, school, still don't have my xbox back yet. Although, I think the best thing that has happened yet, is that Brett, Sarah, and I have been doing a lot of talking, and they might move down here. They are coming down tomorrow to stay the weekend with me and I am going to show them all over Madison and Sun Prairie and hopefully they will move down here soon. So that is pretty exciting. Other than that, nothing else is going on. Can't wait to hear more about your trip. I will see you when you get home. Love you, Mat

Blasted Off
I am glad to hear you are having fun already and you are not even there yet. That is cool that you have met people going with you. I hope every day is such a new and exciting experience for you!!!! How can it not be. Can't wait to see the head. What did a dried slug taste like? I looked up Katatura on google and I seen alot of metal shantys. Is that a shanty town? Have a safe time! Sorry the mom coming out in me. Can't wait to hear from you again.

Hi Sweetie, I am loving this blogging:) Hope you can get on in Harnas too. Don't worry if you can't, I guess I can try to wait. Have fun:) We are coming in on flight Iberia 6274. It is probably the same one you went over on. Any helpful info you can give us about getting around there will be wonderful! The Spanish for Dummies is not really sinking in. I must be too old:(. Anyway have fun and Love You!!!! That is cool that there is another girl there going to the same place. You never answered Mat about the baboons.

Interesting title
so you think it is a vacation to be away from me! :P I miss ya, i don't think cara misses me she is probabley like "yes she is gone!!! I get a whole side to MYSELF!!". Yes this is a neat system, but I don't think I will have much access to internet at Harnas... i'm not really sure about phone access either :( . PS:I'm calling you soon, you better pick up! LoL Love ya

at home on my little vacation
Hey hun, yes, the hawaiian style pizza is great and I'm glad that it was good for you. The girls miss you, all they do is sleep, Brownie follows me and sleeps where ever I sit, Cara sleeps on your side of the bed, it is so cute, it is like she is trying to cuddle up to you, but the invisible you. Anyway, I am at home today on my day off and I don't know what I am going to do. Other than that everything is pretty normal here, not much is happening. Finally getting my xbox taken care of. Thats it. And don't worry about getting more phone cards, there is no reason to pay 20 bucks and talk for a min. Although it would be nice to talk to you, this is a nifty little system right here. and it is cheaper. I'll be back on soon. Don't forget to take lots of pictures. and as always BE CAREFUL. love you Mat ((and to add to Jamie's comment about sleeping, it is probably better than sleeping there than here with me and the girls, you actually get room in the bed and covers to keep warm))

Thanks eric
Hey Eric, I guess I hadn't thought of paying the payphone fee before calling, not that it would have mattered when I was in madrid because I didn't have any euros but I will try that now. Thanks for the tip!

sooo jealous
Your trip sounds incredible so far. I can't believe you are doing this by yourself. Next time, take me!!!!! Are you any where near Victoria Falls? I think we should have this blogging thing all the time just to keep up with what everyone is doing. It is so exciting to get to read what is going there every day. I look forward to hearing about the rest of your trip.

Phone cards
Nikki have you tried to dial the international operator and go throught them with your phone card? I would think that if you just pay the local pay phone fee and then dial the international number on the back that your phone card would work. Or try to dial the number you want using the international area code for the us and the number. Here is what it would be. 001715(followed by whatever number you want to call. so if it were george @ 207-5555 it would be 0017152075555) Hope it helps. Once you figure out the basic needs of money, food, travel and shelter things will go very smoothly. If you are near an American Counsolate then if you were to go there and ask for assistance in someone showing you the ropes I am sure they would be more then happy to. Just make sure you speak to an American and not a National. Well hope all goes well. Love ya Eric
