So so much to tell, and probably not quite enough time to tell it in so I’ll have to sum up a bit. Two weekends ago was our trip to the Courtauld institute to see the Impressionist greats. It’s a very small place and there were hardly any people there so when we came to the entrance I really just wasn’t expecting much. Fortunately, I couldn’t have been more wrong. They had arguably the most important works ever painted by Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin, Cassatt, and even Manet, as well as incredibly important works by Toulouse-Lautrec, Morisot, Pissarro and Monet. There’s something insanely inspiring about standing in front of a painting that you’ve contemplated for years, and that was absolutely my experience standing in front of Cézanne’s portraits, which are painted in an very thought out manner ... read more

Hi everyone, Since my last entry (only a week ago) much has happened that I’ve been wishing to write about, but unfortunately I’ve been sick in bed for most of the week. Things have started to turn around now and it seemed like a perfect time for an update because the library won’t open until five (when my endless research and essay writing will commence). This past weekend was the start of my weekly field studies which take place mostly in London but will also take me to Eastbourne, West Sussex, Hampshire and an overnight trip to Dieppe. The idea is to have on-site learning which pertains to your individual classes, which while in England means seeing a whole lot of wicked stuff. On Saturday the entire Arts/Science school went to London for an orientation tour ... read more

Now that’s it’s been about a week I’ve started to settle in and get into a routine, at least for my days in school. I seemed to have over-shot the jet lag and become an enthusiastic morning person, which isn’t even necessary since my earliest classes are at 11 30. However, it certainly does give me full advantage of the day. I’ve been going to breakfast around 8 30 and then spending my time before class taking walks, jogging through the grounds and exploring. The beautiful weather has been very facilitating for exercise, which is incredibly important now that I’m back to res food! Today I have a large gap from 1 00 to 7 30 between classes so Katie, Hilary and I decided to jog to Herstmonceux Village. It turned out to be quite a ... read more

Hello all I think I’ve reached the point in my receding jet lag where I can actually form sentences, so it seems like a good time for an update. I left Ottawa on Thursday evening and arrived at Heathrow at 1 30AM Ottawa, or 6 30AM London. On the flight I was told that the only way to beat jet lag was to sleep for a couple of hours on the plane and then to not nap at all during the day. Unfortunately, since this was my first flight in almost four years, I was quite nervous and couldn’t seem to get even a moment of sleep. However, I was determined to get on UK time as soon as possible so I decided instead that I would stay awake until at least 10PM with no naps. ... read more

Hello all, Well I'm not too sure how to write a blog and I feel a little odd doing it but I'm sure it will substantially cut long distance phone bills while I'm away, so here goes. So Thursday is the big day and I am yet to be at all prepared. Unfortunatley I seem to be in the lazy ottawa mind set and somehow I'm just not aware of the fact that I'm leaving in three days for my two month adventure. Really, that's a horrible thing because I'm sure once I'm there and I'm missing a few essentials (raincoat, umbrella, rain hat, de-frizz hair products, water-proof warddrobe) I'll be wishing that I had put some more thought into it! Anyways, I'm sure in a week I'll have much more interesting things to report! Love ... read more
