Hi everyone here's the last blog. Sunday 4th After the rather unfortunate incident with the irate Swiss bloke we drove off and crossed over the Rhine at Schaffhausen Switzerland, after just a few miles we were soon into Germany and heading into the black forest. We were familiar with this area having been here 3 years ago so we decided to revisit a camp site we stayed on back in 2008 in the city of Freiburg. Being back on familiar territory and meeting up with familiar travellers in Glen and Linda who after having had 4 months back in the UK were out for a summer trip, we made plans to stay in Freiburg for 4 days. Over those days we walked around the lovely city with it's medieval old town and it's streamlets that run ... read more

Hi all, Sunday 19th didn't turn out too bad after all, the thunder disappeared over the hills and the sun came out after lunch so we packed and tidied up ready to leave in the morning. Monday 20th Leaving lake Bled Harry said his goodbyes to the 2 German girls that had been following him around the camp site for 4 days, then we stopped off at a new supermarket for us, Eurospin (we've done that many!) to stock up then it was just a short drive to the border and the entrance to the Karawanken road tunnel that takes you through into Austria. The drive was again very scenic and easy, straight up the A10 motorway until we turned off at St Micheal im Lungau and onto the small town of Mauterndorf. It was quite ... read more

Hi all, Friday 3rd June The final toll road of Italy took us around the NE corner and through the slither of Italian land that lies between the Alps and the Adriatic sea, we headed on via Trieste and down to the border. The first border crossing was into Slovenia and as Slovenia is now in the EU we didn't need to stop so we drove straight in to add another country to our list. Today we were just passing through Slovenia so after around 30 mins or so driving along a busy stretch of road we came to our second border crossing, into Croatia. Here we had to show our passports which was a first since Gibraltar but with no troubles we drove in and yet another new country was added, it was also a ... read more

Hi all, Tuesday 17th May The original plan, many many moons ago was to get on a ferry from Bari in eastern Italy and cross the Adriatic sea to Croatia, but with the ferry booking website not working and no one ever answering the telephone I've had to scrap that plan and we now have to drive north instead. A bit disappointing as we no longer get to visit Montenegro, Bosnia or southern Croatia, but missing out on those means we get to take in some of Italy that we never intended. Leaving Pompeii and the west coast behind we headed into the hills of central Italy and for the east coast town of Manfredonia. At first the roads cut through the Campania valleys with soaring high peaks on either side until we levelled off through ... read more

Hi all, Friday 6th May. Our drive out of Tuscany and into Lazio took us through the Le Crete area, we passed the eye-catching site of Monptepulciano before we arrived on the northern outskirts of the city at Camping Tiber. After a fairly long drive we decided to relax by the pool for the rest of the afternoon and plan the days ahead in Rome. Saturday 7th. That morning the camp site shuttle bus took us to Prima Port station from where the train went direct to Rome and to the Piazza Popolo. The plan was to just wander around the town all day, get our bearings and decide what we'd like to see and visit when the weekend crowds had headed home, so off we went. We walked around all afternoon and got our bearings ... read more

Hi all, Wednesday 27th April. Leaving France behind and heading towards Italy was exciting, none of us had been here before so it was a new experience. The minor coastal road looked almost impossible in a large motor-home so instead we hit the motorway toll road and put San Remo into the sat-nav. The coast road might have been interesting but the A10 motorway was no less spectacular for scenery. San Remo is the Italian Riveria's answer to Monte Carlo but not as flamboyant and we arrived in rain (so not a good start) then found that the camp site was not what we expected, so we found an Aire de Service next door full of motor homes and decided that would do us for the night. What do you do when in Italy? obviously we ... read more

Hi all, Monday 18th April. The long drive wasn't that bad at all. We followed the 'Route de Vins' through Provence passing by countless vineyards, driving below the Verdon hills and over the switchback roads of the Maures hills down to Port Grimaud. Arriving at this site it was clear that the Easter holidays across Europe were in full swing as the place was very busy. Locals, many Germans and some Italians filled the smart chalets and the motor-home area was also very busy. Coming out of a winter period where the kids were usually the only kids on site this place seemed packed to us. The camp site, Prairies de la Mer has everything required and is right on the beach, it is also just a short walk into the town. Port Grimaud is a ... read more

Hi all, Tuesday 5th April. Bonjour Francais. Just a stones throw over the border into France we hit the Cote de Vermeille and our site at Argeles de Mer. We'd considered a trip into Andorra to ski again but not having enough info put us off. It was strange that we'd only travelled a few miles into France and yet it seemed a so much greener and neater than Spain. There weren't many people around on the site as it was still early season so for 2 very hot days we had the outdoor pool all to ourselves. Wednesday was market day in Argeles old town so we cycled in and took a look around the place. A pretty old town with a mixture of Catalan and French influences and also an eccentric old English women ... read more

Hi all, Wednesday 23rd March Leaving Vilanova i La Geltru and the Costa Dorada behind we hit the road and travelled first along the short coast of the Costa del Garraf then straight through the middle of Barcelona. We then joined the coast road along another small costa, the Costa del Maresme (no I'd never heard of them both either) which took us through the resorts of Calella and Malgrat de Mar before we arrived at Blanes. Blanes is quite a big resort with 2 nice beaches and a nice town centre and looked like it would be busy in the summer months. We stayed here for 3 days, for the first 2 we explored the area on bike, cycling along the prom and around the town. On our 3rd day we jumped on the local ... read more

March 21st 2011

Hi all, As I said at this Vilanova camp site we had the use of all the indoor facilities so as Tuesday was a pretty gloomy day we made the most of them all day. Wednesday 16th March and it's Daniels 17th birthday. (I think I lost track of the dates in the last blog somewhere!!!) As we'd decided to stay on this site instead of moving closer to Barcelona the best option to get into the city was the direct bus that stopped right outside the gates and it dropped us either in the Placa de Espana or Placa de Catalunya which are both central. The only problem was that the journey was over an hour long passing slowly through the nice resort of Sitges and by the airport. On the bus and into town ... read more
