...on the count of three... Nate... Your "post haircut" photo makes it look like they hypnotized you! You didn't start running around quacking like a duck or anything... did you?
Hey,
My mom works with your dad and she told me about your blog and trip. I've been reading each entry and I think its really cool what you are doing. It sounds like your having a great time and I am completely jealous! Me and my brother are going to be freshman at St Johns. I heard thats where you and your dad went. My mom also reads the blog whenever your dad says theres a new post. She likes it just as much as I do. Someday I hope to go to another country like you.
Ben
I go out with the other foreign teachers at my school quite a bit or other friends from school. Although most all of my out of city exploring I'm runnin solo
Mao Tse Tung "pleasant goat." I hope a farmer somewhere in the world says That to their goat... but goats aren't pleasant animals. Enjoying the readin, N.a.t.e! Thanks for sharing all the oddities in your new world.
Ben, Your haircut looks great! I'm just amazed at all the things you've experienced in just one months period of time.
It's great to be able to experience China through your pictures and commentaries. Do you do all of your traveling and exploring along? Can't wait to hear and see more. Love, Ann
Cold Chicken head - yuck!! Ok Nate - the dinner you described - dead cold chicken head and all - YUCK!!! Hopefully the rice was extremely tasty and a lot of it! Also spicy fish head soup - what is up with that?? Pickled Seaweed - now that may not be too bad - but fried chicken feet - aren't they tough???
Enjoy all of your adventures - everyone here at my office is following you also (through me) - you are the talk of lunch time! Just make sure to always stay safe! Love, Chris Sr.
Nat, I commend you on your courage with Chineese food. My imagination would clearly get the better of me! I like to clearly be able to identify any food group I eat! Love, Ann
Great Post! Nate,
Just a quick email to let you know that Dorothy and I really enjoyed your descriptions about everyday life and dining out with your colleagues. We look forward to reading more. You're a brave guy!
Love from the States,
Uncle Bill
I laughed out loud!! Nat, I read your adventures aloud to Mike. We laughed out loud. What a crazy adventure you've had and you've been in China less than two weeks! We are really looking forward to following your adventures. It must be hilarious for you to watch the reactions of the Chinese people seeing someone who is so tall! We will have more fun following your adventures then watching our favorite tv shows! Love, Ann and Mike
What an Adventure! Great to see China through your eyes. Your experiences so far make my studies in Spain seem tame in comparison. Sounds like you are having a blast. Keep the stories and pictures coming. Sorry that we didn't catch you in WI last month. We missed you! Good luck with the kids! Aunt Liz
Your location Nate,
I pulled the map up to see where Zhongshan was in relation to Shenzhen. I knew since you came into Hong Kong that you must be close. I have been to Shenzhen for business, and when I entered from Hong Kong I did not take a ferry, I walked across. You are right around the corner -- relatively speaking. Shenzhen is a major industrial city. We had a business partener there along with customers. Three things I will always remember from the trip. 1) My first experince with going to the womens room at a business meeting and in the stall was just a hole in the floor that you had to straddle (try that in panty hose and heels). 2) How dirty and deterirotated the buildings seemed on the outside -- and they are all quite new development. 3) Fancy lunch in a private room with the Karaoke equipment. They loved Karaoke. The food was interesting. I stayed with things that were "Cooked"...and if it moved I avoided it. They are all wonderful hosts, so I know they will take care of you. I will see if I can find you local contacts. Take care. Rita
Hello Nate Sounds like you are doing very well! It brings back memories for me. Your mistake on the food is not that unusual -- and I think you will make more over time, but they are always so polite they will not call you out on it. "Saving face" is a big deal. It sounds like a fantastci experience. I look forward to tracking what is going on as the weeks go by. Hang in there! Let us know if you want us to send you anything. Happy to ship care packages when you miss "normal" American food or other items.
Much love and luck!
Rita
love the blog Funny - I just sent you an invite to add you as a friend in face book so I could find out how you were doing in China - and then I got an email from your mom with a link to this blog....love it. Be safe, Have fun and stay in touch.
Love,
Lyn
Interesting! Another GREAT update Nate! Keep em' comin' please. I feel like I'm there with you. I admire your willingness to dive into the food choices in China. I'm honestly not sure I could do that. The picture you took of all the cereal, with Frosted Flakes, Corn Flakes, and Special K clearly an option, would likely end up being my primary source of nourishment! Regarding the picture at the Baby Einstein factory... I'm glad you pointed out you are the one in the red shirt. Otherwise it would have been very very hard to figure out!?! :-) Take care. Hello over there!!! Hi Nate

HOLY COW, IT BLOGS Natebones, this is great stuff. Keep these babies coming. Also, next time you "dominate" on the court, make sure you are wearing a B-Rob jersey. Let's get the international-stardom ball a'rollin.
yay! Hey Nate! Rebecca and I (and I guess Trio) were looking over your first post. Things seem pretty interesting... Trio didn't like the stray cat picture - I think it brought back bad memories :) Annnd
Be nice in B-ball, you have a height advantage even here. We look forward to more posts.
