HAPPY 2 SEE HAPPY CAMPERS Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed the wine! Your trip gets more and more enviable. Also glad to know that Squirrel's helpfulness with bird identification rivals my own. At least with wild flowers, I can get more into the Latin names: Flowerus Redus is my favorite.
My name I believe I will choose my name. it will probably be Cowbus. I have not decided, I have been a little busy trying to pack for a trip. Of course it is your car, but we may be referring to it as "The Big Green Zit" (so full it is about to bust) after I show up. Save some of the scotch and scout out a 24 hour package store around Bozeman, I do not have room to carry rock gut whiskey on the stage flight out. Getb used to me converting modern terms into 1876 terms, it will enhance my trip as well as yours. Well I would love to keep typing but I work. See you Wed.
Western birds western birds would make my eyes pop out of my head. I've never even seen Peterson's guide to Western birds. though I did see a scrub jay once long before I paid much attention to birds
Feelin the heat Sounds really cool, moose are really big mothers aren't they? Sounds like the long lost relatives of Miss Piggy and Freckles are keeping you company. The pigs (guinea) are in fine form and send their regards. Pepper however, is still wondering what he did to land him in jail. He has to be crated inside for 4 weeks (Dave is SOOO excited). He just gets to go out to do business and then limps pitifully back into his crate. His back leg has an incision about 7 inches long but is healing well. He'll just have to cut back on the tennis and golf game. We just came back from the annual family camp with church, 60 folks, lots of bicycles, heat, sweat, and boats. Emma and Andy are becoming quite the waterskiing champs , although with all the sun we are coming back a bit crispy around the edges. Two cars are malfunctioning, Andys locked up on me in Kingston and had to be towed back to our house in Ktown. The vingo van has a hic-cupping engine currently. Oh well, another day, another crisis. Have a great time with the mooses. Vingo
Moose Totem Works! Glad you saw your moose; we want credit for the sighting. (Warning: do not overuse the power of the moose totem; you may unleash forces beyond your comprehension!)
Looks like you're having fun! The pics are great - except for that scary Bates motel! Looks like some really beautiful scenery. Like Vanessa, I'm enjoying the vicarious road trip experience. Hope the new fly works great!
you are making us all want to move west I, like Vanessa, am enjoying hearing about your travels. The fact you have jackets on is quite amusing for us here in hot knoxville. I guess you have heard we are experiencing 101 degree weater. Sounds like you are having a blast and for those of us who have to work, we enjoy knowing others can just play - wet tent and all.....
Jealous Really enjoying living vicariously through your travels....a couple of decades ago I wandered a similar path and the blog is bringing back lots of memories. can't wait until you get to Jackson Hole and see what you think. If you are car camping, at all in JH, (think you are backpacking tho) check out Gros Ventre campground...sort of splits the difference between Jenny Lake and the town of Jackson.
Happy Trails!! Vanessa
Travel Trivia Answers Photos were taken west of the Mississippi River, but east of the Cascade Mountains. I know you're surprised by my grasp of the geography of the area.
fun in the sun You were in Kansas-the one picture looks like the Sand Hills or whatever they are called, west of Wichita. Am slightly jealous of all your adventuring. Wow-a Bison up close-to think I lived 5yrs in North Dakota, dont think I ever saw one in the wild. (we were never in the wild except in our own house!)
Yipee-Ki-Yay Yippee-Ki-Yay. . . Bison Patties!! Less than 168 hours to go before yours truly leaves work and heads West. Starting eating 5 meals a day so there will be room for me in the car. You are either in or around Gillette or Sundance Wyoming. Just have my prize ready at the airport. Later North American Mammal Duo.
You went that far to see rats? Here's hoping you see some mosquitos next! Cause, if you see em, you can nem lil effers.
In the spirit of pioneering adventurousness, I walked out to the mailbox to get the mail last night. Then, to work on my endurance, I did it again about an hour later. There wasn't anything new out there though, so that's the last time I endure that torture.
Iris has almost a third of her hair left!
Godspeed,
sloth
Well, that's just so cool that you're in the BADLANDS, because when I was helping LB study for her social studies test last night, BADLANDS was one of her words. ANd she'd illustrated it very nicely, but without snakes, bison, hail, tornadoes or torrential rain. Send the rain over here, to this parched DESERT (another of her words) we call E TN. And next time you're nigh to hypothermia, just think about all of us sweltering in this hellhole. More cheerful thoughts later. Have fun!!!
Life in the not so slow but boring lane Greetings from Ktown and vingo gang. School is started (I am a middle school teacher) and the children still do not recognize their own name when the roll is called - (huh?). Middle school is going relatively well for the girl child, although she lost "team time" (think recess) for coloring in math class. Go figure - the art teachers kid is coloring in math. Bad news for Pepper the wonder dog, took him to the vet Saturday, he's blown the acl joint in his back leg and has to have major (think expensive) surgery to walk again. Bummer.
The boys are fine, much mourning your absence at movie night. Have fun, keep in touch. the vingos
the buttkicking.... yeah, mother nature totally kicked your butts. something similar happened to me on discovery, so i will not make fun, only empathise. hope you guys are having an amazing time traveling the country and seeing all the sights. we really envy yall. will you be done by christmas? :)
p.s. uhm yeah, i CANNOT believe that you did not thank us on your first posting! what the crap? :)
Seems it never rains in southern California Don't want to get in trouble, but just returned from beautiful, sunny, moderately warm San Diego where we participated in a Tiki conference. Activities included sitting by the pool, imbibing lots of rum drinks and listening to surf guitar, exotica and other lounge music from bands like the Calypso Cats, Martini Kings, TikiTones, etc. We promise to share our finely honed Tiki skills by making you expert Mai Tais when you visit CO in October.
Deadwood? You should check it out for me. I heard they have casino gambling.
I wonder how much it crapped up a quaint little tourist trap.
That must have been scary all that weather and just a tent.
mosquitos in Mn Interesting to read this, as I was just listening to "A Prairie Home Companion" this evening and there was a laughingly funny skit about the ginormous mosquitoes in Minnesota. Hope youre having loads of fun.
Ah...fond memories.... If I am remembering correctly we had one of my most memorable mosquito experiences with you guys visiting an Indian mound in MN. Here's hoping you have none of those types of experiences in the next 5 weeks.
Badlands Be Bad Well, it sounds like a bit of up and down in the Badlands. I hope your spirits weren't dampened as well. It is historically hot here in the mountains of western N.C., so we are sweltering a little bit. But no downpours, which is unfortunate since we really need the rain. Now that we're living on well water, we watch the forecast like never before. All is well here. Happy trails to you.
We have blood and bear in Webster It's not too late to change your travel plans, Squirrel and Moose. We have lots of beer in Webster, NC, and some blood, pumping much better through Alan's heart (a quick health update) since he's on new meds.
Quit our jobs to travel the Northwest. Hitting most of the National Parks on our adventure. Three Months. Two people. One car. A lot of chocolate and a lot of beer (not together). Not coming home until we see a real Moose.... full info
