Re: Stunning Pictures Thanks Tony,
Glad to hear the weather in Aberdeen is still miserable!
The floating picture is a bit of clever timing between photographer and me. I certainly am not light enough to float after all i have eaten the last 2 months!
Mike
Flamingoes Jon,
I am very impressed at your flamingo related facts. You are indeed correct! One extra large James´ flamingo burger for you i think!
Mike
Flamingoes - sad fact Good shots of the flamingoes, good enough to identify they aren't the more common Andean Flamingo but the rarer James' Flamingo (not much black in the wings, but bill colour is the clincher). Like anyone cares...
Stunning Pictures Mike your turning into a right David Bailey .... stunning pictures and would love to know how you got the floating lake picture. Stop having all this fun when we are working and its miserable outside!
Richard Fairbrass I thought Right Said Fred split up years ago - maybe they did but i would never have expected to see one of the founder members in a pool in Chile (ref second last pic)
I am reading them I may not comment very often but I do print these off and read them out of work hours. Just though I would mention, since you went sandboarding, I was skiing for the first time ever last weekend. The general consensus of everyone was that I was fantastic (for a one legged man who has never skied before). There is a video for you when you get back of me skiing. My instructor was very encouraging though, he said I improved 200% in the course of my lesson, I was quick to point out that 200% of nothing is still nothing! Anyway, have fun,
Ali
Well Frodo! Well Frodo Baggins did you get to mount doom with the one ring? Pretty spectacular pictures of the mountains but a little concerned the sea men in Chili have replaced the babes in Argentina ..... must be desperation. Tony
Aye curumba! Well having finally sat down to read through all the great entries, I've decided to redress the blokey comments about football and las senoritas and say something very female - you're looking a little skinny, are you sure you're eating enough...? Tuck into a few more bloody steaks i reckon. Everything looks and sounds amazing - sure you'll want to come back? Lots of love, Michelle x
Nice Glaciers!! Hi Mike,
Good to see your sticking with the rocks and the ice. Did you go in for a swim in the lakes?!! Punta Arenas sounds interesting ..... or is my translation a bit off !!!! You'll be pleased to know we've coping without you; just!! Cheers.
hi looks like your having a great time mike....i just arrived in melbourne last week and got a flat sorted..had a great time in sydney for xmas and new year - missed our usual few pints on xmas eve in derry though....just need a job now and i'll be happy...would love to have the cash to so the west coast of oz but only so much you can do - need to get sorted as i leave for nz in april...ciara and baz get here next month so looking forward to that....enjoy the rest of your travels!!
Can you stay away longer I hear the BBC need a replacement for Michael Palin, do you think you could do it? We have said yes on your behalf.
They would need you to stay away longer and talk cr*p about where you have been which should suit you fine.
TV crew on its way as I said yes for you as I am now your agent and Dean is your lawyer, £50 a week enough to live on? We are sending Ewan McGregor along for the next part as you have a face for the radio and the ladies need some eye candy to go with your accent.
Getting close to a publishing deal for the great photos and we are keeping the IP rights before distributing profits to offset your carbon footprint by spending them in an organic environmental pub.
Take care and talk to the camera with the red light on........action!!
Cool! Sorry couldn't resist the pun. I'm amazed ... it sounds as if at least some of Pinnocks geowaffle has rubbed off on you ... excellent. We'll make a geo of you yet ... not! Sounds like you're having a great time. Really enjoy the blogs and photo's ... keep 'em coming. Have a great one and take care.
Feliz Ano Nuevo! Mike, thats Happy New Year in Spanish... Anyway, keep up the blogs and the detailed descriptions.... It sounds as though you are having the time of you (mid) life.........
Best regards
James
ps Its also very unusual to see a reservoir engineer appreciate the fact that there is more to life than excel speadsheets...... So there will be no corrections on your Geology.
Roy´s (Not so) secret love child Roy,
6 weeks in and the scrawny body is becoming a wobbling mass fed on a diet of steak, chips and beer. Still, i will try and send you a private picture of my "sexy body" for those late lonely nights at home with the lump!
Mike
6 weeks post conception Mike,
It's good to see that all is well with you and your travels. My morning sickness still continues unabated (thanks for asking) and the pregnancy induced cravings continue with a steady diet of Guinness, pizza and Nobby's nuts (chilli flavour since you ask).
By the way, I would love a picture of your scrawny body, rather than water, hitting the edge of a massive basalt plateau!

Scorchio Top stuff Mike. I like a waterfall as much as the next man, so this instalment was very, very well received at Castle Douglas. Glad you had a good Chrimbo and keep up this blog stuff - I'm living my holidays vicariously through you now....
Have you seen any West Country settlements over there? Puerto Wurzel etc? An ancient ancestor of mine started a turnip ranch in the pampas - fell madly in love with a seal (much like Mike) and floated down to Buenos Aires with it, where they shot him. A tragic turn in the continuing story of Somerset's global domination...
Looks good Hi Mike, looks like you are having a great time out there. Hope you had a great christmas and new year period. I am heading back up to Norway tomorrow morning, but will try and keep up with the blog.

Update since our last trip ended: We got back to the UK from our fantastic year travelling in June 2011. We spent the summer in the UK catching up with friends during a "glorious" English summer. To keep the thrill of discovering new places alive, we decided to look for work outside the UK, so home since October 2011 has been The Hague in The Netherlands, which we are looking forward to exploring in the near future.....
Oh, and of course there is the small matter of a wedding to organise!
Watch this space for future travels and thanks to everyone who has checked in over the last y... full info
