While in India, I will have a car and driver as they highly recommend that westerners not drive here for several reasons. First, there are no traffic rules. If you can fit, you can go there. You can pull a u-turn in the middle of rush hour. You can cut off 7 people riding on a bike. You can make a right on red (or left). I only saw one accident when I was there, but they dont have a lot of traffic police like we do in the US. It was crazy to see how many people can fit on a motorcycle. The cool thing about being in India and working US hours is that there are no restaurants or fast food open at the end of my day (usually 4-5 am), so I am "forced" to order room service every night. The time change effects everyone differently. Some people adjust and eat their meals at the same time as in the US (ie morning=breakfast, evening=dinner). For me, I was used to eating dinner at the end of a workday, so I would usually be eating dinner-type foods at 6 or 7 AM. My hotel caters to westerners, so my staple end of day meal included tomato and mozzarella w/ balsamic dressing, a chicken & fried egg club, iced tea and coconut ice cream. I will be working US (eastern) hours during this trip, so if I sacrifice some sleep, I will be able to take advantage of seeing the city during the day while working at night. On my first day in Bangalore, I asked my driver to take me to the heart of the city. This photo is of Brigade Rd. The road is about 3 blocks and lined with store fronts, eateries (both local and western) and peddlers.... read more

I had been told that many westerners can feel claustrophobic upon arrival in India due to the shear concentration of people in the city. I found this to be true. Upon arrival, I was innundated with offers to carry luggage, exchange currency and purchase souvenirs.... read more
