Inspiring As you recount your big adventure, I am but days from starting mine. Off to Takoradi, Ghana (via Toronto, Frankfurt, Lagos, Nigeria) for a minimum nine months as a journalism trainer at a small TV station.
I am taking a break from packing and sorting and figuring out what to leave behind. And in the back of my mind, I wonder how this adventure will affect me. It's great to be on the front end of something so mysterious and life changing. I can't wait!
Back to your post: it echos what I feel from all my previous (though shorter) travels Central America and eastern Europe. We have so much, and until we see how the other world lives, we have no idea.
Travel is the greatest school. I can't wait to get the lessons started!
Cheers!
Doug

Merry Christmas to you both too from all the staff at Bali Santi. I am in Australia for Christmas - supposed to be summer but it has been a bit chilly for me - getting too used to Bali weather.
Have a happy new year too.\

Merry Christmas Wow, that's a bit of a contrast to Bali. And to Sydney - we're off to the beach for the holidays.
Merry Christmas guys, have enjoyed your blogs.

Can't believe I'm the first to comment. I have been searching the Webb, looking for pictures and info on Scotland. I'm from Kentucky, USA. My son just arrived in Glasgow yesterday to attend the University for a semester. My husband and I will be going there in Jan. I can't wait to see some of the beautiful places you have photographed. I'm going to tell my son to be sure to go to King Tut's Wa Wa Hut while he's there. Thanks for the tour. Lynn
keep on writing Hey guys, great to see you are back in normal life again. Although you it seems you are partying a lot. That's what makes life great. Whe have a great change coming up also. Miranda is pregnant for four months, so at the end of september whe're expecting a little baby. She is doing allright and we're looking forward for our new familymember. We're reading all kind of stories about people travelling with baby's...... dreaming of a yourney to a sunny island with our new kid and our two oldest. Well we keep you informed about the tummy and whats in it.
a big hug from your dutch friends
whow Whow, you've seem te got a great time over there. Every time whe read a report of your yourney (which we do a lot) we're jealous. Although some experiences are not that well they make us want to experience them.
Hope you're well and that you have a great further yourney.
What you're missing Don't know if you're aware.... but for the past 7 weeks we've been walking in picket lines around CBC buildings across the country. We've been locked out. Much anger and unhappiness and calls for heads to roll. I'm sure we're having way more fun than you
Super photos I stumbled upon your blog and had to browse because I've never been to India and would love to go some day. Thanks for sharing. Your photos are amazing.
I envy you ! Stumbled into your blog and I truly envy you. Perhaps your blog and pictures will help me convince my wife. I'm currently in Scotland with my son and 2006 will be Turkey with my wife. I look forward to more of your pictures. Thanks

Soggy Passport Solution Last Blog sounded like a mix of fun and grief!
I had a soggy passport moment a couple of weeks ago when Charlie put it in the washing machine - DOH. Here's the solution....
1. Get some paper towel and put a sheet between each page and on the top and bottom.
2. Put the passport under a pile of books / something heavy and flat for 12 hours.
3. Change the paper
4. Repeat 2
5. Get a clothes iron (if you can) and iron each page dry
6. Put back under the books for a day.
7. Your passport will now be pukka again like mine!
Or, I'm sure, you could just leave the bloody things out in the sun for hours and hours and hours - GITS!
Ciao babes

A year off with no job, kids or mortgage. Just towering backpacks and each other. Where to? Southeast Asia sounds like a good place. But first we'll cross Canada from our home in Vancouver to Halifax. We'll make sure Elli the cat has a nice place to stay. Then it's on to Toronto for Xmas and Glasgow, Scotland for New Year. With aching livers we'll hit Bangkok on January 9th. From there? We'll let you know. Visit often.... full info
