Reflections

 Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
What has studying abroad done for me? Have I changed as a person? I have thought a lot about this since I have been back in America, and perhaps it's only appropriate that it has taken me until the end of June to write out my thoughts, for everyday I feel like I am still reflecting. With graduation under my belt, Grad School on the way, I have big big big changes heading in my direction and was very nervous about these changes. Studying abroad, I truly believe has helped me accept that with change, we can adapt, and when we [View Full Entry]

A Spanish Fiesta!

 Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona
35 days since my last entry on Paris? Wow--midterms, essays and homework really have been taking over my life. One might ask why keep writing these things since it has been almost two months since I've been home, but this blog must be completed. After Paris, I had a short two days in Roma to see my parents arrive, but I've decided to save that for my last entry--there was a lot of reflection that occured in those two days, and I think it's a good way to sum up my thoughts on my experiences studying abroad. I'm calling this entry [View Full Entry]

A Parisian Affair

 Europe » France
Bonjour everyone! Yes...France! I know I said I would write another blog in a week, and here I am (typical Megan) and it has been 12 days, but hey, at least I didn't make it to the two week mark!! On a quick note-the layout of this entry is kind of funky, but I had so many photos to include, that it's just going to have to be that way :) After the lovely vacation on the isle of Capri, two girlfriends and I traveled our way to Paris, France! Now the one thing that shocked me about this city: it's [View Full Entry]

A Tropical Getaway

 Europe » Italy
Hello everyone! It has been almost a month since my last entry--I have been away from the Internet a lot, as I have been on SPRING BREAK! Yes, I finally finished some gruesome finals (essays, short answers, multiple choice...) and went off to embark on a 20 day Spring Break trip; not too shabby. I am now back in the US, but feel the need to complete this blog, so everyday I will write about one of my trips, until this blog has come to an end. First up: Capri and Pompeii! Capri was our last 'horrah' for everyone in the [View Full Entry]

Ciao Everyone! I am in the midst of finals week, thus this entry might be a little shorter than usual. I have already completed two presentations, a 15 page paper, and a mini essay on why the Sistine Chapel is relevant today---woooh! Now I am in the middle of studying for Italian class, and Intercultural Communication, and yes of course, Ancient Roman Civilization-so much to do, so little time! I feel like Finals have kept me from my usual exploring these past two weeks, but I can't forget, I am here for school...darn! Anyway, I had the wonderful chance of exploring [View Full Entry]

Ciao everyone!! I wanted to brighten up my blog with a MUCH happier one this time. Sorry if the last email was so depressing. Everything in it was accurate though-it truly was a life changing experience. I never did talk about the wonderful things I saw in Poland though! Krakow is one of the most amazing cities I have seen. The castle, Wawel (pronounced Vavel) is the symbol of Poland, and only a 15 min walk from our hostel! We went inside and saw some old swords used for sword fighting back in the 1700s I believe, and viewed some of [View Full Entry]

So, this entry is pretty depressing--just wanted to give a quick warning. You'll understand if you keep reading...I went to Auschwitz this weekend in Krakow, Poland. I am going to discuss a lot of what I saw, most of which is extremely disturbing. A lot of people ask me why I would do such a depressing thing. When I sit and think about why I went, I tend to ask back to the person, "How could pass by this enormous, important piece of history when I am right next to it?" Yes, it was very depressing indeed, but one of the [View Full Entry]

Ciao everyone! Whooo well I guess my subject line says it all: I have been one busy girl. After visiting the catacombs, I have done so much since the last blog I wrote! My history class really is beneficial-the professor is a professional tour guide, who happened to be a professor at the UW in the past, so it works out perfectly, because everything we visit and she teaches us about, I already want to see anyway. Through her, our class went to the Church of St. Clemente-basically an 18th century church built on top of a 4th century church. The [View Full Entry]

My journey continues...

 Europe » Italy
Ciao everyone! Life in Rome is continuously going well! I went to visit Sperlonga beach with some of the group on Friday and it was by far one of the best days I've had in a long time! The Italian coast was beautiful and I got to dip my feet into the Mediterranean, take some fun photos and on top of that had an already paid for lunch atop a restaurant on a hill overlooking the Med. on a porch while sipping wine, eating pasta, salad AND steak--these Italians are crazy!! We also went to a museum where Emperor Tiberius lived [View Full Entry]

My First Thoughts of Roma!

 Europe » Italy
Ciao everyone! So sorry it has taken me so long to work on this blog! Life in Italia has been absolutely fantastic. The flight was disgustingly long (10 hours to Frankfurt, another hour to Rome, then an interesting van shuttle ride with a man named Alfredo...) but I made it! It's hard to put into words what the feeling was when I first got here. It was both physical and emotional. My body had tons of adrenaline, and my mind was overflowing with thoughts of where I wanted to go, how I would get around with virtually no Italian background, and [View Full Entry]
