We arrived into Bangkok at half past midnight onto a bustling Khao San Road. The sounds from the car horns and the music pumping out from the bars, blasted in our ears. The smells were overwhelming; the sewer stench, the smell of chilli smoke from the street stall woks and barbecued chicken filled the air. It was a real feast for the senses. The bright lights lit up the street as if it were still daytime, with it, injecting us with new burst of energy. Once we found a half decent place to stay, we dropped our bags and headed out to explore the city. It was just like walking onto a movie set. This place is amazing with so much going on everywhere we look. We spent a fantastic few days in Bangkok, much better ... read more

After three days of travelling we arrived safely in Chiang Mai, a fantastic city full of lots of fun opportunities. Our first adventure arose from a simple conversation with a lovely guy who told us about a seven hundred kilometre circular route starting and finishing in Chiang Mai, travelling through the mountains of Northern Thailand close to the Burmese border. He said it was well worth doing if we had the time, so we set off. There was very little traffic, no endless lines of coaches to overtake, no hassles, just an opportunity to ride the bike all day long on some of the best roads imaginable. We had so much fun over the four days, stopping off whenever we wanted, visiting small villages and chatting with the locals. It felt great to be free from ... read more

We didn't really know what was ahead of us, heading into Laos. We'd heard that it was an amazing place but nobody could have prepared us for how beautiful this country is or how much fun we'd have here. We started off in the south of Laos and Paulo found his perfect paradise island. We arrived on Don Det in a small boat, suitable for no more than five people but in true Asian style, it was loaded with twice as many. There were no roads here, just small dirt paths with water buffalo, cows, chickens, roosters, dogs and cats roaming round. We started looking for somewhere to stay on arrival but all we could see was people lying out in hammocks. When we asked about accommodation, we were pointed in the direction of empty bungalows, ... read more

When will we ever learn - they will tell us whatever we want to hear in order to get our money!!!!!! We were leaving Sihanoukville for Siem Reap on another night bus. The journey was to take 10 hours so we wanted to make sure we were on a sleeper bus. We asked; they said yes. We asked for photos, written confirmation, price comparisons to the regular buses; it was a sure thing this was a sleeper bus! But when we arrived to the bus station in town there was a regular, run of the mill bus. It was the most uncomfortable 10 hour journey we have ever had. We didn't get a wink of sleep. To make it worse, when we arrived in Siem Reap at 5am, the hotel pick up we had organised didn't ... read more

We decided to make our slowly to Cambodia and booked a three day tour up the Mekong Delta from Vietnam. The weather was gorgeous and chilling out on a boat, taking in the fabulous scenery sure beats a long bus ride! The journey was broken up by little stops along the way, rowing down small canals under the shade of coconut trees, a visit to crocodile farm and going to see the floating markets where the trading is crazy busy at six o'clock in the morning! Past the floating markets, we went into some of the local’s floating houses. Their business was fishing and they had fish farms under their homes with about one hundred thousand fish inside. To feed the fish they'd lift up the floorboards and throw in the food. It was really amazing. ... read more

Since our last blog entry, we have been relaxing on beaches, lying in hammocks, eating like kings and soaking up the rays. Life is great! We met a lovely Danish couple in Hoi An and have been travelling with them since. Deciding to head off to a little secluded resort for some chill out time, we found the perfect location - Jungle Beach! Although the taxi ride there was a little terrifying, down dirt roads that were barely passable and through some of the poorest villages we've experienced, we landed in what can only be described as paradise; our own bungalow facing the beach with hammocks on our doorstep. It's hard to describe Jungle Beach; it's like nowhere we've been. The place consists of a big garden with all sorts of exotic trees and plants and ... read more

Who would have guessed that a thirteen-hour bus ride could be so comfortable? We left the rain behind us in Hanoi and headed for Hue on the overnight bus. It was surprisingly nice, a sleeper bus and the time flew by. Hue is a pleasant little city, full of interesting history and sites. We walked around and visited the citadel and then went onto the busy markets. They were incredible. Our first Asian markets and they lived up to expectation. We saw the most bizarre things, from a full pig being roasted on a spit to little fish swimming in a half empty bucket waiting to be killed. After Hue, we moved onto Hoi An. Originally planning to stay here only three days, we are still here, eight days later. It is beautiful; a small pretty ... read more

The adventures begin! After one failed attempt of landing in Singapore, a threatened reroute to Kuala Lumpur and some scary turbulence, we are here, safe and well, in Hanoi. The city is crazy busy and the drivers are insane; trying to cross the road is a task in itself! The heat is unbelievable; it’s like living in a permanent sauna. This doesn't come without some incredible thunderstorms, rain that's so hard it almost hurts! And amongst all this madness are beautiful lakes and gorgeous parks to walk around and escape to for a couple of hours. Two days in Hanoi was enough for us. We were ready to leave the hectic city behind in search for something a little quieter, so we set off for Ha Long Bay. The weather was gorgeous, not a cloud in ... read more
