Yes, it’s raining for the first time (stop gloating you bastards!). Well actually it probably rained here in the city yesterday as well, judging by the super dark clouds we saw hanging above town while we were out on Botany Bay in a boat (bet that shut you up real quick like). Lucky for you guys that it is raining as I was about to go out again, just dropped by the hostel to drop off some stuff but now I might as well sit down for a minute and write something. Saturday morning started poorly for me as my newly discovered breakfast place was closed. They do an awesome bacon&egg roll with a delish capu for only $5.50. Was really looking forward to that when I woke up, but I guess they’re only open on ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Kings Cross April 4th 2008

In the words of the wonderfully eloquent people at McDonalds: “I’m loving it…” I did not straight away. It took quite long to get away from the airport (arrived at 5.50am and wasn’t at the hostel till 10-ish) and the ride from the airport goes through some pretty slummy looking pieces of Sydney. In fact between that, the shuttle driver and his coordinator shouting at eachother in Arabic and the driver trying to shake me for $12 bucks for a complimentary drop-off, I felt more like I’d arrived somewhere in Africa. After dropping off my pack at the hostel and going for a walk I took a wrong turn and ended up in the bad bit of Kings Cross with about $3000 worth of equipment on my back so after a coffee and a grilled chicken ... read more

6.00 am, Wednesday April 2nd 2008, Dubai Airport. It’s 4.00 am for me now and so far I’m doing pretty great considering I didn’t sleep much the night before I left and have purposely stayed awake on the flight into Dubai. Arrived here at 5.15 am and have spent the last 45 minutes or so walking the airport from end to end, or at least the part outside of customs. I tried getting some Dirham (yes, I too was surprised that my mirrors and beads were not an accepted currency here anymore) from the ATM but it said that my carrier was offline and wouldn’t give me any money. It was, however, a Barclay’s machine and I have an ABN-AMRO account so that might have something to do with it. Get over it already you pommie ... read more

Europe » Netherlands » South Holland » Leiden March 12th 2008

Hey guys, Welcome to my Blog. If you're here you probably know who I am, but just in case you don't I'll run through some details. I'm 29 (although will turn 30 during my trip) and from the Netherlands. I'm self employed as basically a photographer for photo and film, working mainly on corporate events like company outings or promotion video's and stuff like that. Before this I worked as a manager at a factory for a couple of years. The next 12 months or so I'll be traveling around Australia, going counter clockwise from Sydney and hoping to complete a round trip. In typical fashion for me I've probably set myself too many targets. Where some people go to see the sights, live outdoors or maybe see a particular species of bird or plant, my ... read more
