What a GREAT Blog & what a FABULOUS Start to what will undoubtedly be an AMAZING Experience – Hopefully my ‘better half’ didn’t scare ya too much below – It was so impersonal, I thought it was an advisory – But nope, it’s my husband!!! I’m happy to hear that you made it safe & sound, and am sure the freebee's helped to make the long *ss travel a little more enjoyable ;) You said nothing about your bags... If they also arrived unscathed, I refuse to believe you were actually travelling with Air Canada! LOL I hope you passed along our ‘hello’ :) I feel as though Ting’s been part of the family for as long as I can remember... I’m SO EXCITED that you finally got to meet her (and her family) – I hope that someday we’ll get to do the same! I'm jealous of the 'hot hot' weather you speak of :( At least I didn't have to shovel today – URGH… I’m looking forward to your next entry - Play Safe!!!

Your adventure
Hi Mallory and Warren, Wow, you really are in another world! Glad to hear the mats were comfortable, but did you actually sleep, or did it just seem too surreal? I have never heard about Ting before. Perhaps I should visit her sometime! Enjoy the weather! Sheila

Sweet Blog
Very cool first entry. It's really good to finally see some pictures and get some more context on the famous Ting's life! Your traveling is looking adventurous. Shooting around Rayong in a side car and sleeping on bamboo mats! Good for you guys. I saw that today protesters stormed the president's compound in Bangkok. Did you participate?

Have Fun, but be safe
I don't mean to put a damper on things, but it's best to be safe than sorry. Your trip should be a whole lot of fun! A couple of things to know when in Thailand: - exercise a high degree of caution because of the high threat of terrorist attack. We continue to receive reports that terrorists may be planning attacks against a range of targets, including tourist areas and other places frequented by foreigners. - Pay close attention to your personal security at all times and monitor the media for information about possible new safety or security risks. - exercise a high degree of caution because of the political instability in Thailand. Large-scale political demonstrations and related incidents have resulted, over recent months, in some fatalities and injuries in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand. A number of small explosive devices have been detonated at various locations. Demonstrations have occurred at a number of government buildings including Government House, the Parliament building, Police Headquarters and at airports. You should avoid demonstration sites, political rallies, military deployments and concentrations of security personnel. You should also closely monitor developments and follow any instructions issued by local authorities. - Suvarnabhumi International and Don Muang airports in Bangkok have now re-opened and are operational following closures from late November until early December 2008 due to demonstrations. Further disruption of transport and other infrastructure is possible. Demonstrations can develop quickly and with little warning. There is an ongoing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia relating to land adjacent to the Khao Pra Viharn temple (Preah Vihear in Khmer). There were instances of fighting between Thai and Cambodian military troops in October 2008 resulting in some injuries and fatalities. The temple is currently closed to tourists. Australians are urged to avoid travel to the area and to monitor local media. - Best not to travel at this time to the southern provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla or overland to and from the Malaysian border through these provinces due to high levels of ongoing violence in these regions, including terrorist attacks and bombings resulting in deaths and injuries on an almost daily basis. More than 3000 people have reportedly been killed and many more injured, including a number of foreigners. If you are in these provinces, you should consider leaving. - The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed human deaths from avian influenza in Thailand. M
