That's the Bent Pyramid The unnamed pyramid you photographed at Dahshur is the Bent Pyramid, named for how the angle changes halfway up. Didn't you go any closer or weren't you allowed? It's even more impressive up close, and still has part of its limestone cover. As for the no lights inside the Red Pyramid, there definitely used to be lights in there, sounds like they got rid of them so they could rent torches to tourists.

hi peter and mari Been "off" for a while. Guess i am taking a leave from moderator duties, at least till May. It is only now that I am able to check TB and found ur blog. What a wonderful way to spend Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year. Your "survival kit" reminds me of my own, whenever i travel with family esp the kids. Packed noodles, chips and cookies, for sure!
Thanks for sharing. Btw, i can't seem to access your photos on pages 3 through 5. Each time I click, I get directed to the list of blogs on Maldives.
respond to anonymous comment In my world, people have the guts to sign their comments. It's quite sad to see that some people love to comment without this ability to sign their message. I don't judge, but that I'm aware of there is not that many place where you can see the big cats in the wild. Kanchanaburi is for sure controversial. I'm not sure what to think of the place after being there. But for sure also some of those who signed comments like the one I've just received are not better.
what is natural nature ? tigers chained up and called nature ? im somewhat disgusted by it really. these big cats are being used as toys for the pretend wild life types who are too pathetic to go out and travel where the big cats live.
Hi Lili! Well, in India terms it could look pricy...but the best room, in the best hotel...is still less than what you pay for the Shang in Makati...not cheap, but not a bad treat...you know me, I'm after deals or I don't do it...
lovely hotel, lovely place My, you guys really make fascinating discoveries , don't you? first time i have read about this place, or about this hotel. looks lovely. must be pricey too. but if you say it is worth a stopover, i'd listen.....and save.
Nice blog, peter.
Giving the game away? I was accused of this by some diving friends too ;) looks like a great spot - plenty of macro and some of the bigger critters too - good luck to Leslie with the OW!
You are completely right! Thanks Em and Abebe! You are 100% right and I found it meeting a young Norwegian student who is studying in Addis Ababa. I found out a lot of things about Ethiopia will having diner with him. For example, Addis is not at 400 meters altitude, but 2400...a slight difference...I was not really sure of all the info I received from my taxi driver, but for sure, they were less than accurate. Sorry again for not given proper info, that I simply did not have.
Ethiopia is Coptic Having grown up in Ethiopia but not been there since it was interesting to see the pictures. Ethiopia has a long history as a Coptic (Christian) country whose history predates Islam as a religion and could not be considered a muslim country.
.
Not a muslim country Ethiopia is a very, very, very Christian country. It is one of the few Coptic places on earth. Eritrea, a separate country, is Muslim, but Ethiopia definitely is not.
This blog is just short of 10 years old. We have now move to South Africa.
Why South Africa? Simple, great wine, great food, great golf and even more amazing diving! I will for once continue to blog from time to time about home. After all, this is just my fourth continent after having grow up in Europe, lived in Asia for twenty years, and even spent a full year living the life of Buenos Aires.
Come to visit....there is so much to do here! ... full info
