I was there too... Hello, my english is not so good... I was there on october 2012.
we werw alone, my husband, my daugther Maya and I with our guide Francisco.
During the night in the hammock .... A JAGUAR passed 1 meter near us!!! We didn't see it, because light was off, but we could ear it so strong passing by, and the next morning, we could see the patches of the jaguar feet on the bottom... it was the first time Francisco met a jaguar during an excursion with tourists!!! He was so afraid that he kept the machete by him inside the hammock during all the night!!!
I have to say that spanish is my mother language, however i live in Switzerland in the french part, and i think I wouldn't have enjoy my travel in Colombia so much if I couldn't speak spanish so good...
I was happy to be a "different tourist" in Colombia, not like "yankees", Germans and else. I could speak with Colombians people like a native everywhere I have been in Colombia, so we went to some places where no tourists go, for example in the country Boyacá, north of Bogotá.
I am 55 years old, and I spent my first years of life in Colombia, from 1959 until 1963... No tourists there in that period! ;-)
what about the rest of it Although some fun was had by all you convieniently neglected to mention some important events that happened (to you)...namely a lovely young vampress who goes by the aptly named nickname of Big Tits

We did go on a boat trip a few years ago to see whales, we did manage to see some but you had to be looking just at the right time, can remember just about saw the tail come out of the water and then it disappeared for good!!!! I did look at your blog a few months ago and am gona have another little lookie now. Think you will be meeting up with your mum and dad shortly in Oz say hello to them for me, forgot to e-mail Lorna before they left. Anyway gona get back to your piccies, continue having fun - will you ever return to this wonderful country!?!? Enjoy Love Jan
I enjoyed you Columbia post. It looks like you are having a good time there. My blog is looking for travel photos. If you have time, email us some at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com and check us out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com
Continued fun on your travels,
Eric
Didnt you go to Boa Viagem?? No wonder you were not impressed by Recifie. It is like going to Rio and totally avoid Copacabana and Ipanema and stay only in the center. Plus you should know the real city cenetr these days in all brazilian cities on the coast is the beach districts. The old city centers especially on weekends are no go areas.
