Great help !
Thanks for these comments about your adventure. I am about to do the same on April 2011 with a german friend. I got a flight from NY to Accra and will try to visit these 4 countries, maybe (if possible) traveling slow and stop a day in each country. Thank you, Rafael www.facebook.com/myworldtour

Lagos to Accra
hi ya, am gonna be travelling the other way round in january of 2010 from Lagos to Accra. Though I am Nigerian and was born in Lagos, and have been to Cotonu as a teenager very many years ago, I am still very woried on making the trip. I have been living in the US for 15 years now and would be spending my honeymoon in Accra, Ghana with my Nigerian bride. She is so eger to go to Ghana, and that is why I acquiesced. I intended to go by public transpport to be unnoticed. I have been told that would take a long time to arrive in Accra. having read your blog i think I would have to take a driver for rent. I also would be travelling on a US passport, and I intend to take a visa from the respective countries that is Benin, Togo and Accra before going to these countries. Alternatively I apply for a Nigerian passport before i make the trip. Thanks for informing us on your trip. It has given me courage to do it. Though am black and Nigerian born, I am much afraid to make the trip than you, because these individuals you met at the border would be more careful to deal with you than me. Its when they see my US passport that they might render me some respect. Otherwise they would see me prima facie as their normal average Joe on their borders. That can be fearful, becuase many shady thins go on, on these African borders.

Respnse to CLINTWINE
The people who wanted money were not arranging us a taxi, they were merely leading us back to our driver who we saw down the road, and wanted to get paid for it. Just like the people at the checkpoint who wanted bribes for 'letting us past'. I am sure there are many nice people in Nigeria, I even met a few, however, per capita there is more crime and murder then most if not all other officially civilized countries. For me, that just made it more exciting.

when you understand the culture, you understand the people
Hi, you never did bribe the gentleman that found you a cab, you only paid him for his service, you could have easily refused and looked for the cab yourself. That is how some people work to fend for themselves How awful for you to describe the gory parts you saw in the outskirts, but dint describe in great detail what you meet in VI and LEKKI That i think is not fair of you You should try to give a fair view of everything you see Are you trying to say that in NY there are no slums and robberies My dear, these are everywhere, thank God we don't sell CRACK the way they do on the Streets in New York Though there are some Few BAD Elements in Nigeria, it doesn't make the VAST MAJORITY OF GOOD GUYS LIKE ME BAD. I think you should put that to mind when next you are creating impressions in readers NIGERIA IS A GREAT COUNTRY

Well, after living for 13 yrs in Nig this does not sound new at all. But, all the bribery is a reality. Like u have to bribe those ppl that "help u find" ur car!
