Our last stop (sob, sob) was Hong Kong where it was bloody hot! Our days in Hong Kong were spent doing all the touristy things we could: - Hong Kong Park - Peak tram and tower - zoological and botanical gardens - Bank of China Tower - Central-Mid Level escalator (the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world) - tram ride - window shopping in Kowloon - Hong Kong Museum of History - light show over the sky scrapers on Hong Kong island to classical music (one of the most bizarre things we've ever witnessed!) Some pictures...... read more

So, we arrived in the Cook Islands in the morning on Tuesday 16th June having left New Zealand in the evening on Tuesday 16th June; all very bizarre! Our time on the Cooks basically involved sitting on the beach... it's a hard life! We did however hire some bicycles and managed to cycle round the WHOLE island (not a particularly difficult task!) Some pictures...... read more

So, we only had a few days left on the south island after the last blog update, one of which was spent at Milford Sound - absolutely gorgeous scenery. Our next stop after Queenstown was the rather sedate Twizel, the nearest big(ish) town to Mount Cook. Twizel was almost a ghost town and I think we were the only ones actually staying at the hostel - this was quite a different experience after Queenstown! We got dropped off in Mount Cook village and took a walk closer to the mountain. Next stop was Christchurch (again), followed by Kaikoura (again), where I did manage to go whale watching. Next stop would be on the north island... We took the ferry from Picton to Wellington, New Zealand's capital, and spent the next day visiting the tourist sites - ... read more

So, back up-to-date now. We are currently in Queenstown, having spent almost two weeks in New Zealand, arriving in Christchurch on 16th May. We spent a couple of days in Christchurch to get over the excesses of Sydney, visiting the Botanical Gardens, an art gallery and the museum - how cultural of us! We then started the Kiwi Experience and the carnage began...! Out first stop was Kaikoura where I was hoping to go whale watching but it got cancelled. We will be visiting again, so hopefully I will get to do it. Next stop was Nelson where we hired a car to visit the Abel Tasman National Park. Next stop was Westport where we went jet boating in the Buller River, followed by Lake Mahinapua and the legendary poo pub and fancy dress party. The ... read more

Again, apologies for being so crap at keeping this thing up-to-date. May is now off bungy-jumping so thought I'd take the opportunity to update this. Second part of Australia... So we arrived in Byron Bay on 30th April and surprisingly sat on the beach. Due to there being the annual Mardi Grass (yes, Mardi Grass) festival in Nimbin there was no campsite space for us and our campervan so for a couple of nights we had to sleep by the roadside - how naughty of us! We stayed in Byron for a few days soaking up the atmosphere. The next few days in New South Wales were very disappointing - Coff's Harbour, Port Macquarie and Newcastle were nothing to get excited about, mainly because the weather was getting cold. We did visit a koala hospital in ... read more

Firstly, apologies for being so lame at keeping you updated whilst we're on our travels - obviously, we're having such a good time we just can't be arsed to find an internet cafe! Secondly, the computer I'm on doesn't allow me to upload photos so you'll have to wait to see the gorgeous blue skies and crystal seas we've had for the last two and a half weeks... So we flew from Bangkok to Cairns on Saturday 11th April, during which we watched a fantastic lightening storm from the aeroplane - not for the faint-hearted! We picked up our campervan and began our adventure. (We have yet to name the van and welcome any suggestions) First stop, north to Cooktown, named after Lynsay's great great great great... great great Grandad (not really). Saw 8 dead kangaroos ... read more

So, we have completed our full circle and have ended up in Bangkok. As we were in Bangkok we decided to visit a lady-boy show, Calypso Bangkok to be precise. Oh my, hilarious!! We also visited Patpong Market and went shopping down Khao San Road. In the evening we went to the Rock Pub with a live band and given we were the only patrons we took to the microphone - I Will Survive rock-style is not easy! Anyways, we have said emotional farewells to all the great people we met on our trip and now Australia beckons. See you on the other side... Lyns and May x... read more

So, getting out of Vietnam and into Cambodia was an experience, we thought it would never end! Anyway, we entered Cambodia on 1st April had a quick tour of the Phnom Penh and went to bed - highly exciting!! On our second day we rented cyclos and had a proper tour of the city visiting the Grand Palace and Independence Monument. We visited the S21 prison where Pol Pot tortured and interrogated his opponents and the killing fields - both quite emotionally draining. There were skulls and other bones at both locations of those that had died. We travelled by bus to Siem Reap and stopped at a silk worm farm on the way - quite a fascinating process. We spent sunset at Angkor Wat - absolutely stunning and watched some traditional Cambodian dancing in the ... read more

So, we spent 12ish days in Vietnam. Some of the highlights: We crossed the border and spent some time in a town called Vinh. Never ever visit this place. I don't think they get many tourists here and took offence to what Lynsay was wearing (a vest top and trousers) and decided to slap her shoulders. Anyway, fortunately we were only there for a few hours before our night train departed to Hanoi. The train was very cosy - six in one cabin! We had a city hour of Hanoi, visiting the war museum (aka Hanoi Hilton where John McCain was prisoner), the Uncle Ho Mausoleum and the One Pillar Pagoda. Hanoi people absolutely love the horns on their cars / mopeds / tuk tuks. You would not believe the noise they made. The only problem ... read more
