Welcome Back Wow... what a journey you both have been on.... It's great to have options and I'm happy to hear you're happy to be home and with the folks.... We're still here in View Royal... so if you're in town give us a shout. Blessings to you both....
wow Moving again? I don't know how you can stand it. I dread it so much, wish i had enough money to just leave everything and get new stuff, although sentimental value still wins.
Japan is another amazing place. Wherever your destination, i'm sure it will be a good decision. Take care :)
God Bless Difficult choices: Vancouver, Japan, or retirement. I know you'll make the right one though "brother". Tomomi and I think about you and Suzanne often, and miss you guys very much. Our door in Hong Kong is always open to you. God bless.
Photo Doug - thanks for the photo of Joyce and me on your blog. I figured out how to post it to mypictures and will add it to my collection. Hope to see you at the 30th anniversery of the 12 reunion that Richard was in favour of.

reunion Hi Doug:
The gifted scholar has lost my message in the computer twice now. I didn't expect to see myself in your blog- especially the gifted part. It makes up for being called one of the"old people" at the 40th. Is there any way that I can get an e-mail copy of all the photos in this blog?
I am amazed at your memory of high school and even elementary school stuff. I think you are the gifted one. I had long since forgotten teachers' names and things that were said in classes. I had no idea that I had a higher mark (by 1) on the social studies test or that it had bothered you all these years.
waiting for your next blog
Elaine
Your sermon Thank you for these words. I'd like to send this to Jeff if you don't mind. May God continue to bless you and your family and keep you safe.
take the dogs home at the same time!!! doug, i ran into the same problem with the cats two weeks ago. i had to leave taiwan within a few days and my cats were not allowed on the flight from detroit to nyc. my cats are safe and sound with me now. i called a cargo company called CITA AIRCARGO and it was like $100 USD more than it was to take them on the airline. the only thing is they came on a different flight than me because it was so much cheaper. but the company dealt with customs for me and i didnt have to. if you want more information contact William (his english is wonderful!) at ling@datadot.com.tw or i believe this is the correct number: (02)2764-3668
let me know if i can help you out with it....its good to be home...and you'll love it too! :)
oh!!! and you have to take the dogs to quarantine (taiwan department of agriculture and ...) you have to get a certificate from them. you have to bring all the Taiwan export proof of vaccination form (to be completed by a vet), vaccination records and rabies documents...make sure all the numbers are correct and that the vet filled out every single part of the form...i ended up sitting in the office for 3 hours in the heat with two very angry cats in a small cage.
I can feel your emotion in this blog Doug. Graduation has two faces: A new chapter in students' lives, but a very sad time saying goodbye. I taught for 3 years at a college in Shantou and witnessed buckets of tears by both students and teachers.
nice to have a friend sending me travel paged thank you doug i feel like am travling also you always make things very intesting i look forward to haring from you again who no maybe i will travel but ino no it will not be so exciting as your nice stories of travel i thank you becky write again
Garbo social I quite miss garbo collection every night and the social scene; meeting neighbors and friends, exchanging the latest bits of news, etc. Now I hurriedly dump a bag in the garbage container on my way out to work - and hope I don't get ambushed by an escaping cat!
Just spent a great week in Oman, had a mid-semester break. Was fabulous, well worth visiting.
hahaha It was so funny listening to the garbage truck again. Man! Good thing the kids weren't home or they'd be telling everyone i'm laughing at the laptop again.
St. Stephen And lo it came to be so, St. Stephen rises up from the ashes of former bureaucracy and red tape, propelled on wings of pure wisdom. Wow! I not only enjoyed your sermon but gathered a lot of warm fuzzy feelings. Your audience must have gained great inner wisdom from your sermon. I believe that you settled their stress and showed them another way to tread. I agree whole-heartedly with our former colleague Jim by saying " It indeed looks good on you, my friend."
Much love, Scott
Doug hits the nail on the head. It made me feel good to read your sermon Doug. You are not as dunb as you look!
You must be getting wiser as well as older. Your sense of humour hasn't changed, but I see you have reigned it in a little on this occasion. The orient agrees with you.
Keep up the good work. I still count you as a friend.
Love Jim

Great Entry here! Hi Stephen! Before I praise your article, I just want to bring up a mistake: martial was lifted in 1987, not 1975 as you said. Chiang Kai Shek died in '75. Anyhow, I totally relate to most everything you said. Your Pagan Dan articles make me homesick for Taiwan. I may be coming back in August! How long will you stay?
A lovely story Hi Doug,
Really enjoyed your story. Such a sense of adventure. I am sure your student enjoyed learning a little bit about Canada and practising her speech with you.
Take Care, Jill Dashwood
Same experience Hi Doug,
I continue to enjoy reading your postings with interest and in this one I recognize my own experiences in Korea with my host-mother who didn't speak a word of English except "Okay" (with accompanying thumbs up). I am consistently amazed that despite the fact that two people can not communicate with words, an abundance of love and kindness can be shared, felt, enjoyed and a true human connection can be fostered. It is a beautiful thing and strengthens my belief that humanity and spiritual connections between people from any country in the world is possible...it just takes a curiosity and genuine interest in others.
Enjoy your days in this wonderful country and please pass on my greetings and encouragement to Sue.
Jennifer
A nice surprise!! Good job Suzanne!! You should write more often. Tomomi and I enjoyed reading about your experience in Viet Nam very much.
We miss you guys!

It's time to start the next phase of my blog. My wife Suzanne and I are no longer overseas residents, but we are NOT settled into Canada by any stretch of the imagination. Sometimes I will write about my home (after all many of my readers are overseas). I also need to update my picture and my nom de plume.
I hope you will enjoy Part Two of my blog.
