| 31st May 2008 Marissa | - From: The real Thailand: Singburi There actually is very little sexism against women in Buddhism in Thailand, women can join in the monastic community, but they do not become Monks, they become Nuns, and partake in religious ceremonies just like the Monks do. The Inequality that does exist between women and men in Buddhist Thailand is not because of hatred of women, it's something that dates back thousands of years to the very begining of Buddhism in the world. On the surface it does look like sexism, but once you dig a little deeper, you find that it's not at all the case. |
| 27th May 2008 Mum | I'm so jealous! - From: The real Thailand: Singburi I've always wanted to stroke a tiger. I didn't know Buddhists had a hell-I thought you kept on being reincarnated until you reached Nirvana or something. |
| 19th May 2008 Gina G | Thailand hurrah! - From: One night in Bangkok.... Hey Sophie! Long time no see! Facebook said you were on Khao Samet so I thought I'd check out you're blog - I went to Thailand a couple of years back and had an awesome time. Looks like you're enjoying yourself too! I never went to Khao Samet but I did go to Samui, Pha Pnang and Tao, the island lifestyle is definitely the way forward. If you're down that way then do check out Khao Tao, I think a lot of people are put off cos it's basically inhabited by tourists and people who want to make money from them, but it was the most untouched place I went, totally idyllic - we stayed in this hut in the forest and there's this little group of three tiny island joined by a beach just off it and we kayakked out on our own and just spent the day out there. One tip: don't fall over and hit your head on a rock and get concussed, have dodgy stall food for breakfast and then get on a ferry - for you will see that food again, my friend. Unpleasant but true. Well wherever you go have a really good time, and if you make it up to the North East tell me what it's like cos I didn't have time and it sounded cool. Best of luck, take care, Georgina x |
