Response to Ben's Blog of Dec. 13, 2013 Hi Ben, You really did have quite a birthday celebration...one to remember forever!! I'm not sure I would be as willing as you have been to try the native foods that are so very different from what I am used to. On the other hand, I would have been disappointed in myself if I had not!! A question about the duck eggs...Were these only fermented, and not cooked in any way? If so, that part probably would disturb me the most! We think it is wonderful that you have made time for this tour before coming home, as you would have missed out on so much had you not done so! Look forward to your next Blog, Ben. You are doing a great job with these:) Happy continued travels! Happy Hugs from us to you :)
Fantastic! Great post, Ben! And if I'm ever there I will look up Sen :-) Your adventures sound fantastic, though I'm not sure I could eat the food that you did. Hope your travels continue to go well for you!!
Great! Am so glad to see more of your travels, Ben! Sounds to me like the motorbike tour was worth it, even if you didn't haggle and ended up paying more. The photos are great!
Siem Reap to Sihanoukville We have enjoyed your blogs from your Cambodia trip, Ben...probably a whole lot more than you and Bryan your bus riding adventure!! Of course, that adventure will simply add more interest to the stories you have to tell!! Your pics of the temples are wonderful...so beautiful and ornate. We are happy you are able to take these trips around that part of the world, learning about and seeing as much as is possible while you are there. We look forward to your next blog. Sending lots of love and hugs your way!! Grandma and Hughes
temple photos Great photos, Ben! Can you put captions on these? I'm very curious to hear about your "nightmare" journey, so hope you'll be adding that soon!!!
Great update Ben. The temples look beautiful - to see in person what was built so many years ago. And the challenges they faced in making such works of art. Now I want the rest of the story. Love you!
A great update to your blog Ben. The killing fields contain such true sadness while being such a huge part of Cambodia\'s history. What an opportunity to go and tour part of the country. Hope school is going well for you. Shall miss seeing you while at your mom\'s this weekend. Study hard, update your blog more and for goodness sake, clean your room! Love you....from your favorite Aunt Cathy.
Cambodia Wow, excellent post, Ben, as well as disturbing photos and history! Visiting the museum and Killing Fields must have been a powerful and sobering experience. You are right - unbelievable that humans are capable of such atrocities, and yet we see versions of this repeated over and over throughout history and even today. We must remember them, in the hopes that they will not be repeated. Hope you will soon be writing of your other experiences in Cambodia that I'm sure were more positive!!
Good to hear from you Ben! Hi Ben, We are happy to read your recent post and to see the photos of more of the beauty around you. Such artistic detail and gorgeous colors!!! We have enjoyed having Annie with us this month and being a part of her new experiences at her school. Also are looking forward to having them live nearby :) Josh treated us to a wonderful meal of stuffed manicotti tonight...very tasty. He has promised us steak and potatoes tomorrow evening and chicken quesadillas on Tuesday!! I could really get used to eating like this every evening, but probably would not be able to afford the new, larger wardrobe that would be required after awhile!! We hope all is going well, Ben. We look forward to reading the next edition of your Blog; you have an enjoyable writing style . Love and Hugs, dear one :o)
response Thanks Pam! A stupa is a dome shaped structure which usually houses Buddhist relics. In this case, the relic is purportedly a tooth from Buddha. Visitors were able to see it but there was strictly no photography.
Good to hear from Singapore Hi Ben! So happy to see you have started your postings and to know you are starting to get acquainted with Singapore. Look forward to all that you have to share. We have had a good week with Annie here and enjoyed having your mom and Josh join us for the weekend. Have a happy week ahead! Love and Hugs!
new blog Nice job on the new blog, Ben! I wonder if the campus bldgs. are that way so that people spend less time walking in the rain! Be sure and put up some photos of your hostel, too, when you can :-)
I am an engineering student from Iowa State University. For five months I will be studying at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and gallivanting around south east Asia. This blog is to keep my family and friends updated as I go along as well as a record of my travels.... full info
