Packed up and out ....back in the car ..... Drove out to the Hume Dam quite impressive once the biggest Dam in the Southern Hemisphere (1930s) reminded me again of Karapiro and Cambridge (Albury and Hume Dam) stopped at the quirky little store and had a rum and raisin ice cream and coffee looking out over the lake, spent quite some time. Drove onto Gerogery and past the Ettamogah Pub neat landscape very interesting rolling farming and cropping country, stopped at Culcairn and Henty very old historic towns late 1800s, not much happening but very tidy and still populated, big farming districts. Got into Wagga Wagga the largest inland town in New South Wales, a looooong Main Street 80,000. pop, about 5.30pm, went down for dinner at Red Rooster 7pm and the end to another day. ... read more

Usual drill breakfast to last the day and off to the last day of the cars show and shine, wandered through them trying to remember what we had seen yesterday and what we hadn't .... hot today and at 1.30 pm we left the cars and went to sit on the corner and watch them roll out as many were leaving to head home. Sat till 3pm and drove back to the motel Don had a rest and we went back down to the club again for the last night 3 course meal $22 bucks. Has been a great little home away from home and nice to have a few days just to pause a bit.... read more

Breakfast again at the Hotel to set us up for the day and off to the Cars .... just amazing a huge collection of everything Chrysler in one place 750 odd cars .... will have to check the numbers. This year spotlight on the American Muscle and by the time we got quarter through the rows it was only 1pm .... swap merchants and merchandise was a struggle to get the last T Shirt in captivity for Don.... sunny but a cool breeze March is a lovely time to visit and I learnt more car knowledge, 2pm they started to move out to the Gerogery Pub for the photo shoot for American Mopar Muscle Mag .... Fletch (Classic Restos) has been doing his thing the last couple of days too. We headed back to the Hotel ... read more

Had a BIG breakfast at the hotel and drove out to the Logistics Drivers Track past Wodonga, enjoyed a few hours watching short sprints around the track then early afternoon Whoa to Go, pleasant spot and temperature ... nice and sunny. Spoke to a few of the entrants a super friendly bunch willing to swap notes. Back to the hotel about 3pm with a stop at an outback Caravan yard .... nice well built caravans !!!! Had a couple of drinks and a cool off did our washing and caught up on a few things. Headed out for dinner at the Club again in town and had one of the buffet meals just amazing !!!! Home to sleep off all the food and get ready for a big day tomorrow.... read more

Thursday up and out had a look around Wangaratta did a little shopping and drove on toward Albury, found a really old Historic Town Chiltern and had a coffee .... like a ghost town with most shops open, had a drive around and saw lots of old houses .. quite a sizeable town. Drove on towards Albury and had a look at Rutherglen another very old town, didn't stop carried on through vineyards and old mansions to Albury, rolled in about 4pm and very much like Cambridge with lots of oak trees down all streets ... a bit bigger than Cambridge but very nice. Sorted out at the Motel then down to the SS&A Club in Albury for dinner ... a huge complex and we had the seafood platter for 2 it was far to much ... read more

On the road again through to Bright fell in love with this place and will come back for their big car show they have in November !!!! Very much like our Arrowtown and a popular winter Mecca for them I would guess.... Katy Perry is performing here tonight for the Bush Fire relief .... town was buzzing and had a good look around spending a good part of the day here. Had brunch around 11am again at another bakery and purchased a few goodies from the gift shops. Around 1.30pm we pulled out and onto Milawa travelling through drier country, vineyards and cheese making outfits, found Brown Brothers Headquarters and did some wine tasting a huge operation here and purchased some wine and souvenirs. About 4pm we rolled out through to Wangaratta and checked into Parkview ... read more

A good nights rest and packed up headed out at 9 am started on the Alpine Highway and climbed up through lots of valleys and good farmland. Stopped at Omeo and found another bakery which seem more popular in South Australia instead of Northern Australia suits Don for his pies.... had a coffee and a wander around not much happening and quite a small place. At midday we carried on the road becoming really windy and more scrub than trees, drove into a village called Dinner Plain ... a huge Ski resort, never realised Australia had these and high Alpine areas boy what a surprise to find 10 km up the road the Ski Fields Mt Hotham ... quite an operation and very high .... I almost couldn't drive over the top 1861 metres and down ... read more

Monday Up and away from Eden driving through more devastation from Fires through the Princess Highway a good straight through drive on a good road through the border into Victoria.... stopped at Cann river found a good bakery and had a sausage roll Don a pie and a good coffee around 11 am had a rattle through the small stores this is a major turn off to head inland into the Snowy mountains. we continued on south through lovely farm country and around the corner to Lakes Entrance which was really interesting and a maze of estuaries and coast. Didn't really stop but carried onto Bairnsdale not far away ... more good looking farm land and a cool southerly nip in the air. Had a good night in a comfortable room and got away about 9 am to the Bega Cheese Factory had a good look around and coffee and cake drove on out after filling up with gas toward Tathra on the coast, the old town up on top of the headland took a drive down to the beach where they were having Surf Life Saving Comps didn't hang around for long and onto Merimbula through very green farmland and estuaries. Reached Merimbula about mid day very busy and a good size upmarket looking seaside town ... lots of Oyster farms up the estuary and their EAT festival on along the estuary, we found a park quite close and had a walk along the food tents baiscally cleaned out of all their fare and only cash sales so ... read more

Had a lovely breakfast at the Hotel and packed up and off to have a look at the headland another lighthouse gun emplacements and a blowhole. Drove onto Shoalhaven heads through the first we had seen of the fires it was to be fire damage through to Lakes Entrance at the bottom corner of Australia... saw lots of burnt out houses and cars sheds etc ... had a drive around and on through Nowra and out to Huskisson in Jervis Bay another quaint seaside village and I realise I really love more southern Australia ... so pretty and interesting. Had a wander around the town and a coffee ... took some pics of the bay and moved on after about 2 hours .... temperature very pleasant at about 22 degrees .. a nice change from NZ. ... read more
