We arrived in Darwin on the 26th January, Australia Day! After checking in to our hostel we headed out for the night to a local bar called Monsoons. We spent the evening celebrating and joining in the festivities with the australians, we met some guys who were on leave from the army and had just finished a tour of Afghanistan, which proved to be a very entertaining night. We spent the day in Darwin before our flight in the afternoon. We walked down to the beach and tried to find some wild crocodiles but had no luck, we didn't go swimming as the crocs are such a threat there. We then headed back in to town and passed a deck chair cinema on the way which looked like a lot of fun but it was unfortunately ... read more

Sorry I haven’t updated sooner but the last couple of weeks have been really crazy! We spent just over two weeks travelling up the east coast from Sydney to Cairns and 4 days in Alice Springs and the Red Centre. We started the road trip in Sydney where we picked up our Jucy camper. It fitted 4 people in and was about the size of a 7 seater car. The back converted to a double bed and it had a top box that also converted to a double bed. We left Sydney and all met at VB’s house where we had lunch. There was 2 South Africans, 3 English, 1 Egyptian, 1 Saudi Arabian and 3 ausi’s in our group! Our first stop was Port Macquarie where we stayed with Chris’s cousins. Their house was so ... read more

We spent the morning of New Years day in Kings Cross. We finally saw a hooker in the area and she was very stereotypical, fishnet stockings etc, which was amusing as we have been to King’s Cross a lot now and hadn’t seen any. We then went campervan/car shopping. As we had left it pretty late literally only one rental company had one vehicle left for us to rent. The good news was that it was a 2 month old camper car that looks really good with fully comprehensive insurance and no excess and 24 hour roadside assistance. The bad news was the price, so we ended up spending a few hundred dollars more than we had originally hoped. The car is very funky. Google Jucy Rentals if you would like to take a look. Basically ... read more

It’s been a busy few days! We arrived on the 23rd and the flight wasn’t too bad. We flew from Bangkok to Melbourne and in the duty free shop we decided to purchase notebooks, which nearly made us miss our connecting flight to Sydney as the shop assistant was really slow! On christmas eve, we climbed sydney harbour bridge which was amazing! The views were brilliant and it was really magical! For the first few days we stayed at a hostel on Bondi beach. On Christmas eve we were able to stay on the beach as the weather was really good and I even got a little burnt wearing SPF 50! However it rained every day after at Bondi, including Christmas day! For xmas we bought tickets to the ‘Sunburnt’ Christmas event on Bondi. The weather ... read more

So this week we were meant to be volunteering at an elephant sanctuary but as you'll soon read that isn't quite how things panned out, the beauty of travelling! We travelled to the elephant camp on Sunday and it took over 4 hours from Singburi. When we arrived we saw that the accomodation was quite basic, straw huts with just a bed and toilet and a whole host of animals from spiders, to toads and birds! We spent Monday, Tuesday and half of Wednesday at the elephant camp which was in the grounds of a 4* hotel, where we had lunch every day. There we would watch, feed, wash and ride the elephants. I however was given a psycho elephant that had already killed another elephant and also a mahout! I was told this while sat ... read more

Travelled to Koh Samet in air conditioned minibuses which was a nice change. Stopped at starbucks on the way for a toasted BLT on brown malted bread! We took a ferry from Rayong pier to the island which took about 40 minutes as it was a slow boat very old and rickety. They threw your luggage from the jetty to the boat and I was really worried they were going to drop mine into the sea! When we were dropped off at the island my mosi repellent fell out of the bag and as I bent down to get it the weight of my backpack pulled me off balance and I ended up on the floor! The guest house was sparse and we decided to nick name it the 'prison cell' as there were bars on ... read more

Just a quick one as I realised I had forgotten 2 fun things that happened last week! On Saturday it was the Kings birthday so celebrations had been going on all week. We got into the back of a pick up truck and drove to a festival. There was loads of stalls that had clothes and food and a big stage. On the stage was Thailands most famous boy band apparently! I decided to eat some crickets and worms, which were disgusting! Again we were the only westerners at the festival so t was pretty cool! Secondly we went to a club in Suphanburi and the army raided the place. We were just about to leave as well! They were looking for people who were underage and then if they were they got taken away and ... read more

Trekking week, or trekking two days as it became! We left and arrived at the resort, which initially seemed really nice. However Naomi moved her bed and underneath was some huge cockroaches, which we trapped with glasses and took out of the room. The next day we went to phutoei national park and set up camp. On tuesday we started trekking to our campsite for the next 2 nights. We trekked through the rainforest/jungle and the guide was literally macheting the trees out of the way. We had to cross rivers and climb up a waterfall, so I got wet and so did my stuff. On wednesday we walked to the caves and went inside. It was really fun, we saw bats and huge huntsman spiders. To get out of one of the caves we had ... read more

Tuesday and Wednesday were spent at the temple. We have visited a lot of temples over the last few weeks and none have been like the one we stayed in. It was pretty basic and our room literally consisted of 2 matts and a couple of fans and that was one of the luxury rooms! We spent the evening chanting and meditating which was interesting and then we had noodles for tea. In the morning we had to get up at 5.30am to chant and meditate some more, we did not appreciate the early morning wake up call! We then went with the monks to the district office to sign a book to wish the king to get well soon as he is ill. We went back and helped clean the temple and then we had ... read more

It's been one busy weekend! On Saturday we went in to Singburi town on the free bus and relaxed at the pool, then after a few hours we went shopping for a picnic lunch for our trip the next day! That evening we went to a thai festival and we were the only westerners there. It was really strange there were thousands of people infront of the Hero monument and they just parted for us and so we go places right at the front and we were on thai tv!We had to pretend to sing the Thai national anthem whilst waving flags and then there was some thai dancing all while being broadcast live. Some of our group had gone away for the weekend and saw us on the tele in their hotel rooms! After the ... read more
