Tribal Times
More pics are on facebook! Tuesday and Wednesday were spent at the temple. We have visited a lot of temples over the last few weeks and none have been like the one we stayed in. It was pretty basic and our room literally consisted of 2 matts and a couple of fans and that was one of the luxury rooms! We spent the evening chanting and meditating which was interesting and then we had noodles for tea. In the morning we had to get up at 5.30am to chant and meditate some more, we did not appreciate the early morning wake up call! We then went with the monks to the district office to sign a book to wish the king to get well soon as he is ill. We went back and helped clean the temple and then we had food from the offerings of all the local people.
Wednesday evening was Kim's birthday party, our original plan was to have a toga party with the bedsheets but the chef saw us and said we weren't allowed to use them. So we decided to have a tribal party instead, we made crowns and put on warrior make up. We walked to the bar at twin house that evening and on the walk back we saw a snake in the middle of the road, that was venomous!
Thursday was a fun day as we went cycling all around the local area, we stayed mainly alongside the river bank and for lunch we went to a local's home and they cooked pad thai for us. It wasn't too bad and I used chopsticks! We all wanted to cycle to the town but our guide wouldn't let us as she said the cars were too dangerous. Katie and I decided to have a race and as the bikes had no brakes we had to use our converses to stop, the friction caused the rubber soles to burn.
Friday we went to the zoo which was a bit boring and a lot of the animals were quite mangy, however we did get to play with some of them. I got to play with the orangutans which was amazing and the little one kept trying to eat my clip, and the big one kept trying to eat my hair! I held a snake which was quite scary as I was last and was worried it might be a bit irate with being handled so much. Then we got to play with the tiger cubs and feed them milk which was an amazing experience but they were quite scary even though they were small.
The afternoon was spent at the oldest market in thailand, which was mainly food.
Today we got up early (5.30am) and went to a thai boxing lesson. It was good fun but now my muscles really ache. We did lots of techniques and some stuff in the ring. To finish we did sit ups while he punched our stomachs not fun.
Head to trekking week tomorrow and beach week after, not sure what the internet situation will be like so don't know when I will update next!
