Hong Kong Like most of the previous days, our transportation has once again proven to be very interesting. We flew from Bangkok to Hong Kong via an airlines called SriLanka. The plane was huge and mom and I had the whole row to ourselves on takeoff. Each seat had its own personal TV where you could watch different channels, play games, or make phone calls to other seats. We were once again the only Americans on the whole plane, the majority of people we assumed were either Asian and some srilankans As soon as we took off, and I'm talking before the wheels were even retracted, the entire plane was up out of the seats moving around, forming little groups to chat, switching seats...mind you, the seat belt sign was still on. The stewardess' were constantly ... read more

Bangkok Day 3 Today we didn't really have much of a plan so we slept in till 9:00 and then went down to the hotels buffet. I forgot to mention this in previous days, but the buffet is so good and oddly enough they have things that we would normally eat for dinner at breakfast. I have a hard time eating some of these things so early in the morning such as stir fry, chicken dishes, fried rice, etc. but mom is loving it. We then went to this giant mall but it was so funny to see all the Thai girls running around and the mall was HUGE, it was basically 6 floors of Forever 21 clothes. We then wandered around to a different area of town where we had to walk past all ... read more

Bangkok Day 2 So since it is Saturday, we decide to go to the weekend market which supposedly is a big deal here. It is the largest market in Southeast Asia. It was huge! Mom and I are probably the only tourists in the world who made it out of there without buying one thing . Then someone had told us to go to the Chinatown Market...not good. It was about 10 blocks worth of hello kitty stuff and other useless junk. Needless to say, we didn't buy anything there either. Next we headed to Jim Thompsons house. He was an American who came over to Thailand and fell in love with it and so decided to stay there. He had a big part in making Thai silk as famous as it is today and ... read more

Bangkok ***First and foremost, we are safe and Bangkok has no evidence of any violence left..so no one worry about us here!*** To get from Koh Samui to Bangkok was an adventure in itself. We started off in a van from our hotel, mom and I were the first ones to be picked up and we thought there would be no stops. Wrong, we stopped 7 more times, and by the time we got to the ferry we had 14 people plus our luggage packed in the van, strangers were practically sitting on each others laps. We did meet a nice girl from Israel who kind of attached herself to us for the duration of the trip, it was great! The ferry ride was about 1.5 hours, not a very nice boat, but we did meet ... read more

Day of Fun Corny title I know, but it truly was an amazing day! This morning we left the hotel around 7am to go for a full day snorkeling and site seeing excursion. We debating over which company and trip we should go with for quite some time yesterday and finally decided on a company called Lomprayah. The end result...we were really happy! After about an hour and a half on a high speed catamaran, we arrive at Koh Tao island. In Thai, Tao means turtle because from an sky view, the island looks like a giant turtle. We went to our own private islet where the water was so unbelievably blue and crystal clear. From the boat deck you could see straight down at least 15 feet. As we pull up we see schools of ... read more

Koh Samui Island What a complete transition from the jungle. After finally arriving here after minivan, ferry, and taxi we settled in and had just enough time to go walk on the beach to find some dinner. Our hotel is within walking distance of the main part of the town although it looks like something out of the Flintstones bedrock. It has a giant computer/tv in the room where we have been able to get online including skype and catch up with a few of our friends. Our first night we walked on the beach and were so surprised to find that all the beach front hotels had set up a restaurant of sorts right there on the waterfront. It really was beautiful to look down the stretch of the beach and see all the lights ... read more

The Jungle Where to begin...that was truly an adventure that we will remember forever, some good parts some not so good. After flying into Surat Thani airport we drove an hour and a half to Khao Sok National Park. Our "hotel" is a group of 14 different tree houses, literally one room cabins in the trees. Ours was called Mango house and had a wonderful view of the stream and mountains. We knew this going in, but I don't think we were fully prepared for what exactly mosquito nets entailed...lots and lots of mosquitoes hopefully the pictures will do a better job explaining then I am. For the good: The view and scenery was absolutely beautiful! Huge limestone rock faces and mountains everywhere you look, rubber trees, palm trees . We took a one day trip ... read more

Ancient Angkor Second day in Cambodia we mainly devoted to seeing all the temples. The most famous being Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom although we saw quite a few more including Bapuon, the elephant terrace, Leper King Terrace, Phimeankas, Thommanon, and Chao Say Tevoda just to name a few. Many of these temples were built over 900 years ago mainly for deities and kings of the time. The stones were hauled via elephants miles away from where the temples were actually built. We saw many monks dressed in their traditional garb and after inquires learned they make a pilgrimage to the temples. For some reason that we didn't learn, the stairs on all of the temples are extremely steep and narrow, very hard to climb and descend. They have no signs warning you and the ... read more

Cambodia Hey Everyone! So after completing 5 out of our 11 total flights for the trip we finally made it to Cambodia and we hit the ground running. We checked into our beautiful hotel and hired a driver to take us around the town of Siem Reap for two days. The driver is absolutely wonderful and speaks enough English for us to understand one another. Our first stop was the Floating Village. Here, over 4,000 families live literally on boats in the water. Their main source of income is fishing; however due to heavy rains that come and flood the city, they are only able to fish 6 months out of the year. They have a complete city out there on the water including a school for the kids. The water looks really dirty and our ... read more
