Day of Fun
Corny title I know, but it truly was an amazing day!
This morning we left the hotel around 7am to go for a full day snorkeling and site seeing excursion. We debating over which company and trip we should go with for quite some time yesterday and finally decided on a company called Lomprayah. The end result...we were really happy!
After about an hour and a half on a high speed catamaran, we arrive at Koh Tao island. In Thai, Tao means turtle because from an sky view, the island looks like a giant turtle. We went to our own private islet where the water was so unbelievably blue and crystal clear. From the boat deck you could see straight down at least 15 feet. As we pull up we see schools of fish just surrounding the boat. Snorkeling there was amazing, and we saw many different species of fish and coral.
We then took the boat to Koh Nangyuan Island where they had a huge buffet lunch for us. Immediately after lunch, mom and I made the mistake of hiking to the top of this peak that offered an excellent view. There
were so many stairs to climb up, and our huge lunch was not sitting well with that. But we finally made it to the top and it was well worth the view of the entire island and the waters surrounded. After that we did a little bit of snorkeling on this island in an area called the Japanese Gardens. The water was not very deep at all, maybe the max of 10 feet and the fish were everywhere. I guess they may be used to humans now, because they were not being shy at all, a couple of them even giving us little bites that weren't so much painful as shocking! It was so funny to hear someone give a little yelp from across the water knowing that a fish had probably just nipped them.
Mom and I ventured off and found this cave where the light was streaming in offering a beautiful setting to snorkel. Unfortunately we couldn't take our camera out into the water with us, so you'll have to wait till we get our underwater camera developed to see the pictures of all the fish.
We've both been snorkeling a few times in various places
but we agreed that this was the best snorkeling we have ever experienced! The only downside was that we both got very very sunburned. When we got back to the hotel, we were scheduled for another Thai oil massage, but knowing how sunburned we were they offered to put Aloe Vera on us instead of oil and they went way gentler on the massage. The Aloe Vera felt so good, we had to walk next door to the pharmacy to buy some for our trip!
Last night we went to the hotel bar because we had been given complimentary welcome drinks we wanted to use...Our hotel does something special called molecular mixology which is hard to explain, but they use science and chemistry to mix drinks making them into cool different shapes. The pictures show the cocktails being served in spoons and look like little eggs. All the flavor of a cocktail is in these mixtures and our first one was pina colada which was so delicious! We had both ordered regular cocktails and they kept bringing us more and more. Needless to say, we didn't make it out to dinner as planned but straight to bed after drinking
