Nice one!
I'm still procrastinating whilst you're moving on to the next adventure! Another good one. Thanks, Mike. Big Brother, David

And, one day...
...I'll get around to completing the story of our adventure (and the costing spreadsheet)!

You have certainly inspired me to visit this area...
Have they completed the restoration of Drogo Castle?
30th June 2018

Castle Drogo
It was a five-year, £13Million project and has been beset with problems, including the company which was carrying out the second phase going into administration and bringing work to a halt until a new contractor was found. It became a six-year project, but I think it's still hoped to finish work late this summer or in the autumn. Check the National Trust website for up-to-date news. When I visited way back in 2014, I climbed the scaffolding for a birds-eye view of the work but doubt there'll be enough scaffolding still in place by the time of your visit for you to do that. If it's not completed, they may have some hard-hat guided tours of the site though. It's worth a visit - not outstanding as it's really just a rich man's folly but, as the last castle to have been built in England (albeit in the 20th century!), it's an historic place with great views of the countryside.

What a coincidence...
your blog about Chagford was going to be your last Travelblog! I look forward to visiting Chagford next spring. Our daughter and family are moving back in with us for a year so I now have someone to babysit our dog so Linda and I can travel together. Great Britain has been at the top of the list for when this happens.

Coincidences
Yes, my 'Old Uncle Tom Cobley' blog, which included Chagford, was to have been my last TravelBlog. Coincidentally, I moved for just two years to the late belated TravelPod - from whence have come John & Pat Smallman (DWLPtravelkids)! Now you have chanced to seek ancestors in Chagford. It's a small world, indeed - and Devon is a beautiful part of that world. My wife and her 96-year-old father are from Plymouth and Torquay in the south of that county. Is that another coincidence?

Khandela's main street

Khandela's Main Street
We have a Streetscapes thread in the Photography Forum. I have posted this pic to join the plethora of streetscapes presented therein. Check it out.

Khandela's main street

Thank you Dave. I'm pleased you liked the Khandela streetscape. I do know about the forum topic and have posted some of my own pics (and others) there from time to time. It's always good to have someone else think they're good enough to post them for me though! The Khandela one is particularly interesting as there are no cars and no tourists anywhere to be seen in the town.

Time stands still
Thank you for showing us the "real" Rajasthan. Reading your blogs always makes me want to return to India. MJ
7th June 2018

Thanks - writing my blogs always makes me want to return to India too! :0)

Nice one!
Hi Mike, Lots of wonderful detail of things I clearly missed! A super blog - just one of your many great ones. Keep 'em coming! Fond memories. David
6th June 2018

I'm sure you didn't miss a thing...
...you just forgot to write them down! As you know, I seldom made notes, but I did take a lot of photos and what my memory fails to remember is jogged by the camera's memory card. By the way, Raisal sends you his regards and says we're welcome any time.

Female Leopard, Jhalana

Leopards are fabulous creatures. We returned to Jhalana a week later - and saw three more (female and cubs), but they were high on a distant hill at sunset. I haven't checked the photos yet, but fear the worst!

A journey well lived
Friends rather than miles says it all. Well done. So many memories. Thanks for taking us along.
22nd May 2018

Memories, indeed!
I believe that the people we meet make a visit to any country particularly memorable - none more so than India, where 'visitor is god' and hospitality knows no bounds.

A pair of Pied Kingfishers

Pied Kingfishers
Some lovely bird pics in this blog Mike. This one has that wow factor.

A pair of Pied Kingfishers

Thank you Dave. As you may know, it's my brother David (of the Grey haired nomads) who is the birder, but I'm learning fast! That was one of my favourite shots - if only because I didn't manage to capture the birds in flight together shortly before this one was taken! By way of compensation, this shot shows the habitat though. Pied Kingfishers may be monochrome but they're cute - there's another one in the panoramas on my 'Faster down the Ganges... ' blog.

Buddha
I sometimes feel I'd like to become a Buddhist - the 'mudras' are easy, but sitting cross-legged on the floor is a downright impossibility!

Happy you had a good time
I´m glad you could contact Raju, he really is one of the best people to show you around Varanasi. I wish I could come back to visit him and his family one day. Take care!
25th April 2018

Memories!
Thanks again for introducing me to Raju. You must find an excuse to go back to Varanasi some day - you haven't written a blog in a long time! Keep doing it (...smiling that is!).

World explorers
You've really managed to visit all the nooks and crannies, off the beaten path that India has to offer... along with a couple of mainstream locations. You did find those backstreets and unfamiliar places that some might not write about. Fantastic! I really enjoyed the blog.
24th April 2018

India's another world!
Thanks for continuing to share our adventures. We were, as always, on a tight schedule, but in a place like Varanasi it would have been a shame to limit ourselves to just the tourist hotspots. And there's another week's worth of blogs still to come - including a few more places that TravelBloggers don't seem to have written about!
