Nice post... And don't worry about feeling annoyed about the beggars, most of them are surprisingly well off; in fact even locals get really worked up all the time by them, but just beware of some really aggressive beggars.
And contrary to what u might think, its fairly usual to see goats, cows even roaming the streets in some places (they're usually reared and sold) .And don't be off put by staring locals, you might as well be a representative of an alien race to some. Anyway, it's always interesting to read about a place you know through someone else's eyes (I live in Dhaka).

Re: Marte Still a little "culture shocked" at this point. The culture is much different - and the shock therefore more significant - than going to Europe from the US ;)
