So arrived to lovely 27° weather, feels like heaven after the dreary UK. Easy check through immigration and onto the city bus to get into the centre. Arrive at piazza deign miracoll and quickly locate my hostel. The girl at the desk has trouble understanding me and Im a bit annoyed my room is more expensive than on hostel bookers even with accommodation tax. i get a lecture about not stealing the padlock or keys and am finally allowed to my room. I quickly change for the weather and head out. 2mins later at the leaning tower. I forgo the standard pose of holding it up as Im trying to blend in. Put some music on and wander down to the canal. Quick stop of melon gelato.which there will be many more of. Lots of random ... read more

So we made it in one piece more or less to Hungary Now we were a bit spoilt because I got us a deal at the Ramada Plaza, but we had to get there first. We got a 3 day travel card here for 3850 HF We also had to get some hungarian coins and figure out what the hell they all meant! So we got the metro to the overground and then it was only a 5min walk from the overground. Dropped our bags off at the hotel as check in wasn't till 2pm and decided to go look at something close by. Hopped back on the tram and went down towards castle hill. We figured out we could use our cards to swipe open the bank in order to get money out, which was ... read more

Last day in Brasov. Had a bit of a lie in since our train didn't leave until 9:30pm and we didn't have to check out till midday. So we walked to the train station to get out sleeper train tickets. It was 270 Lei each for a 3 person sleeper carriage to Budapest. So about £50 each. Then we just wandered around Brasov. We went to the mall near the train station, which was pretty boring I must say, though there was a supermarket in the basement. We walked into the main pedistrian area to go to the black church and there was a food market there. We ended up going to a restaurant for lunch which served pizza and were showing Steve Irwin on TV which was a bit strange. It was more expensive though ... read more

Wake up refreshed, and the hostel had cereal for breakfast so we went and helped ourselves. I always find it strange to drink milk out of a carton that is stored in a cupboard...just seems wrong. We were booked on a tour to see Bran Castle, Rasnov and Sinaia and our taxi arrived at around 9:30 to take us and an aussie boy Jacob around to the sites (80Lei each). Our first stop was Sinaia. Now it was Good Friday for us but not in Romanian so there were lots of school kids visiting everywhere. AT Sinaia it was mainly teenagers. We hiked up the hill and Sinaia was beautiful!. We paid 20Lei to go on a tour, but you aren't allowed to take photos. They have someone join your tour who is in non descript ... read more

So Rachel and I got up at 5:45am to head to Heathrow airport for our 820am flight. Had breakfast at the airport and then got served the same breakfast on the flight, which Rachel woke me up for so I started the trip grumpy. No problems at immigration both entering on our NZ passports - no need for a visa Now we wanted to go to Brasov. So we asked at information but because my Romanian accent is shit they didn't know where we wanted to go (its pronounced Brashov sort of) so they said get the bus downstairs to the main train station. We bought tickets (around 30 Lie each) and the driver kindly helped us validated them. Which was fortunate because 3 stops later a ticket inspector got on. We were fine but there ... read more
