Well its been 4 days now since arriving back in London and because it was my first proper travel experience i am struggling to adjust back to normal life. In the end it was more then just a holiday, it was an experience far deeper then anything else. A Journey: “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” - St. Augustine I only started the book and I want to read it all! People go on holidays to lie on the beach, watch the sights or get drunk in a hotel bar but there is so much more to each country on this earth then places designed for tourists. You won't realize though until you actually go behind the façade, leave the guides behind and explore on your own, ... read more

Getting to Kathmandu takes about 6 hours on a coach which we thought would be more comfortable then the local buses, but hey, mistake there. We had seats at the back and it was the bumpiest ride ever, we both on a few occasions almost fell of the seat and i don't know how Dani actually managed to sleep on that thing. Well after surviving that we arrived in Kathmandu and because we did not really have an idea where we were we took a cab to the hotel. That cab cost us 200 Nepalese Ruppees (seems to be a fixed price here) and the driver had actually no idea where he was going and then we realised that the hotel was pretty much around the corner, so a short walk could have done it. ut ... read more

After leaving Lumbini early morning we went off to Pokhara by local nepalese bus which in the end took about 10 hours to arrive even though we were told by the hotel in Lumbini it takes 6. The trip took us through the mountains on narrow streets but the general scenery was amazing. Because it was a local bus it stopped at every god damn village on the way which might have resulted in the long drive. after a long drive we finally arrived in Pokhara in the evening and luckily had a pick up car waiting from the hotel which took us straight there. The hotel is lovely and for the first time during the entire trip we had hot water and a shower with actual pressure which was great, i actually felt clean after ... read more

After some peaceful time in Orchha we were off to our new adventure, travel to Nepal. Unfortunately our train was canceled which was supposed to take us to Gorakhpur and then we would have gone by bus to the border and from there by bus to Lumbini. So instead our agent booked us a car to Gorakhpur which only took an amazing 15 hours to arrive there, so at 3:30am we arrived in the hotel in Gorakhpur. After a not so great night due to being extremely cold thanks to an air condition that could not be switched off we were advised to take a cab to the border which is quicker and from there another cab to Lumbini to cut down the travel time after that long car ride from Orchha. So we left with ... read more

Orchha is a nice little village which is very popular among tourists for its various temples along the river bank and its just beautiful. On arrival it was just extremely nice to get off the car without being stormed by sales people and to be able to actually stand on the street with no one bothering you. The restaurants here are better then most of the ones in the big cities but 3 times cheaper, so is pretty much everything. The people are very friendly and helpful without really bothering you, and the kids love tourists here and are happy to show you around which generally leads to you being followed by a large crowd. By the way, we also discovered that cows are not bad guides here ;-) The stressful days in Agra and Mathura ... read more

After Agra we went down to see the Fort in Gwalior which was amazing, even better then Delhi and Agra; there were also large Buddha carvings withing the mountain on the way to the fort which were impressive. We then decided to go straight to Orchha as there was nothing else in Gwalior and therefore would have been pointless to stay there. We arrived in Orchha just in the evening but were straight away relaxed again after the nightmare from the past 2 days. Orchha is a small village which has a lot of temples and an old palace to visit but is extremely tourist friendly. No one is trying to sell you stuff you don't want and need and everyone is just lovely plus its bloody cheap. And i believer there are more internet cafes ... read more

After the train experience we left by car for Jaipur, obviously later then expected. The car drive was about 6 hours and gave us a great introduction into life outside the big cities as we passed a lot of villages and small towns on the way and finally arrived in Jaipur in the early evening. We had a great guest house booked and our driver then took us t a Massage center where we had a sesame oil body rub which was the best thing to do after a long car journey. The day after we started the sightseeing tour around most of Jaipur with an impressive visit to Amber Fort which is located just outside the city on the surrounding mountains, from where we had amazing views over Jaipur and other surrounding towns. We also ... read more

After Delhi we did a day trip to Mussoorie which is one of the hill stations in India. I pretty much understood right away why it is called "the Queen of hill stations" as the scenery is breathtaking. Unfortunately we were not able to catch a view of the Himalaya as fog was rising from the valley which added a mysterious atmosphere to the whole town. In the evening we had to make our way back to Dehradun to catch our overnight train back to Delhi which ended up being quite an experience. When we arrived we realised that the train was delayed by 1 hour which was not too bad we thought until another announcement came saying that now the train is leaving at 1:30am instead of the original departure of 23:25pm. Now what to ... read more

Arrived all well and in one piece in Delhi. To describe Delhi i can say the following: dirty, loud but mind blowing and utterly fascinating. We managed to see most sights in those 2 days thanks to the driver the agency provided us who are by the way extremely helpful. A few things about Delhi: It is nothing i ever seen before. The traffic, which we have been experiencing straight from the beginning, has only one motto: "NO FEAR-KEEP USING THE HORN", the only thing they seem to stick to is driving on the right site, but otherwise they are all over the place. The sights itself are impressive and full of local "guides" who are trying to get as much cash out of you as possible plus i love the difference in entry fees for ... read more

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain Well, here i go. Tomorrow i will be leaving my safe harbour to join a friend on a trip through the Golden Triangle in India and then Nepal. I am very excited and nervous but have been looking forward to it for a long time now. I am hoping to be able to post lots of exciting stories on here including pictures, so look out for it.... read more
