| 14th June 2007 John Edwards | - From: Dynamite, nitro glycerene and gringos Hi Guys - great to follow your journey. Parts of it seem to be in my footsteps from 20 years ago - including a visit to the mines fo Potosi - its a shame to see that nothing has changed, and the people still ahve to try and eke out a living from that toxic hill of slag. I was very jealous to see your pics of Fitzroy, and especially a successful trip to the top of Villarica! Well done. All the best John E |

| 16th May 2007 Kat and Ben | Cities - From: Santiago and Valparaiso Thanks for your comment. It is actually nice to know they were probably students. As a tourist, you get constantly bombarded by such things and it is very hard to figure out what is genuine and what is not and so you are always on your guard. Perhaps they are going about things the wrong way? As for Valparaiso, no doubt we were in the wrong part. We have heard lots of nice things about the place since. Its the old problem of so much to see, so little time. |
| 16th May 2007 Stephen Paul | wow - From: Pucon Conditions there loook incredible, while most travelblogs and even pro photos of Villarica area lack flavor, yours are full of fall colors, puffy clouds and fresh snow. Too bad you couldnt see lava too!!! Nice work! |
| 16th May 2007 Fitch | Nice photos! - From: Pucon Great photos and blog guys. I am enviously sitting at my desk in foggy London town reading about your adventures. Keep them coming! Ben Fitch |
| 16th May 2007 james st. james | the poetry of money - From: Santiago and Valparaiso actually you were not being scammed by the poem-wielding student. as a chilean, i can tell you these students also try to get us to give them money too, but foreign tourists are especially appetizing to starving students. this may be a "scam" but it had nothing to do with you in particular. and yeah, it sounds like you missed out on most of santiago and valparaiso. the center of valparaiso is a bit shabby (as is the whole city i suppose) but valpo's true charm lies in its hills, not the flat central city. if you were disappointed, you were in the wrong part. outside of santiago, this is my favorite city in chile (and is also the favorite of most gringo's i've met). maybe you should plan your visit better or try getting some info from the tourist office. good luck with the rest of your trip. cheers! |

| 11th February 2007 Kat and Ben | When accountants go bush - From: Stewart Island Ahh...its all clear now. Great workmanship Mike. Not many of your boardwalks are still standing. (Tho' Gerad found a few with his Leki pole). It has reverted to grand old Stewart Island sludge. |
| 11th February 2007 Mike Sheridan | Track Construction - From: Stewart Island I will have you know that I spent a whole summer working on that track out from Masons Bay and Freshwater back to Oban. Building boardwalks over the mud and strems..and it was a piece of great workmanship....Mind you that was 1981 when Stewart Island was controlled by NZFS. Sounds like there has not been much maintenance on the track since then. |
| 10th February 2007 Pop | Easy trip. - From: Stewart Island The young generation cant hack the hard going eh? Ben probably was all talk when it came to the southern loop! |
| 26th January 2007 Anke | - From: Wanderings in the sun Hello sweeties - a big wave from lonely Wellington - Rob just left for his Eric Adrian Graham trip (in the rain, as it looks), Hannah and Ritchie, Benji, and you two are all down south - what can I do but sing a lonesome serenade! Great to hear you're having fun. Of course you won't want to hear that I remember Cascade saddle as a piece of piss, and on good track - but hey it was a clear day and the sun was shining (-; ...and I was young and carefree and probably don't remember it right now anyway. While Joe and Priya are waiting for their treasure to pop out any minute, I am off to the Wairarapa, to visit Tim with Catherine Moger in my luggage - for hopefully a day of bliss climbing the majestic Mt Holdsworth, if we dare. You see, you better make it back fast, 'cause we're having fun fun fun (till daddy took the van away). Be well and see you on your next posted pictures. Anke |
| 24th January 2007 Fitch | Great start to your blog! - From: Wanderings in the sun Hi Kat and Ben. Great start to the travel blog. Here I am on the other side of the world and yet I am jealous of your trip around good old NZ. Great photos and a good account of your wanderings in the sun. Cheers, Fitch. |
| 19th January 2007 Bec Paton | Nice to see the sunshine! - From: Wanderings in the sun Hey guys What an amazing trip - can't wait to read the next installment. As I write the sun is just coming up over London and the sky has a distinct blue/red/yellow tinge - a good sign, because yesterday it was very grey and stormy. We've had some seriously wild weather here over the last couple of days, but nothing like a good southerly in Wellington. I think all the hardy stock went to NZ as the English don't seem to like getting their feet wet, and transport seems to grind to a halt when the weather gets even slightly nasty. Anyway I won't take up any more comment space, suffice to say i'm very jealous of what looks like beautiful South Island weather and wish you all the best for the next leg! Love Bec & Mal (Oxford/London, UK) |
| 19th January 2007 Belle | So So So Jealous - From: Wanderings in the sun Come on guys, you could have least spared us the photos - it looks so fantastic! Great to see you last night Kat, thanks for flying in! Keep this blog going it is a great way to spy on you. Cheers, Belle |
