Everyone has said that the south island is even better than the north so we were very excited to be on the ferry over. The ferry journey itself is pretty impresive going past some beautiful mountains and bays. It takes about 4 hours on the ferry but it's a fantastic experience. We picked up our Subaru car from Picton and made our way to Nelson for the first night. We were told to get petrol whenever you see a stop as you may not see one again for a fair while! We have followed this advice and haven't come unstuck so [View Full Entry]

We have just spent nearly 3 weeks exploring the North Island of NZ. There is so much to do and we are told there is even more to do in the South but here is a snapshot of what have got up to so far........ Our first stop in NZ is the sunny harbour city of Auckland. It is an extremely cosmopolitan city and the largest in NZ. We found ourselves a hostel in the centre so that we could explore the city by foot. The main attraction is the Sky Tower which looks out over the city and harbour. Pretty [View Full Entry]

Bula Fiji  Oceania » Fiji » Yasawa Islands
We arrived back at LAX airport from Houston with two days to go before catching our next flight to Fiji, when Karen suggested going to the flight desk and seeing if we could catch our flight any earlier! To our delight they had a flight later the same day, so without delay we changed the booking and a few hours later found ourselves boarding the biggest plane in the world and crossing the Pacific Ocean (losing an entire day on the way) to a very warm welcome on the Island of Viti Levu in a town called Nadi. We booked a [View Full Entry]

So yeah this is it people, we are leaving America in a couple of days having just spent two weeks in Houston. We have been to Houston before so really this part of the trip was about spending time with Mark and Julia. My bro and sister in law! They live in a wonderful appartment, with gym, pool and outside bbq. We have truely made the most of these facilities. And their beautiful washing machine and dryer!!!! We have been taken to a few museums as they live in the Museum District so it would be rude not to experience them. [View Full Entry]

Now we don't want to sound ignorant here, and perhaps we should have known what a place New Orleans is. This city has been through so much and it has something magical about it and it's fighting spirit to survive. It was a guy we got chatting to in a bar just outside of LA that recommended we go and seeing as it is near enough to Houston to get a the Greyhound Bus, it would have been daft not to. 8 hours on the bus and we arrive. Now as you all know katrina hit in 2005 and getting off [View Full Entry]

Beaches, Surfing, Sun in OC
We had decided that we wanted to head back to Orange County to see some of the beautiful beaches that we drove past whilst it was pouring with rain. After a night's stop over just outside of LA we reached Huntington Beach on Sunday 10th Feb. Huntington Beach is known as Surf City USA and it is very clear that Surfers flock here. After finding a motel we headed for a stroll on the beach and enjoyed watching the surfers catching some waves. Oh how we wished we could surf! Further along the beach near to the pier we were met [View Full Entry]

There is only one road in to Vegas from California and we hit it in the morning. As the freeway got quieter the desert either side of us seemed to get bigger. All you can see is sandy hills either side of you and in front! It is exciting at first but the road just goes on and on and on! As we had time on our hands we had decided to stop off in Barstow. This town is full of pensioners and american people in a time warp! The motel guy had a limp and the kind of look that [View Full Entry]

On leaving Santa Barbara we continued our drive down Highway 1 which took us through Ventura and Malibu. The views of the beaches in Malibu are gorgeous and stretch for 27 miles. We took a drive up in the mountains with more views of the Pacific and some amazing houses balancing on mountain tops. I wouldn't to reach out and stoke the furry green mountains they seemed that sureal! When we arrived in Santa Monica we did our usual drive around to find somewhere to stay and then headed out to explore the city. Our motel was next to Chez Jay [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Santa Barbara on Wednesday 23rd Jan having driven for 2 hours in pouring rain. We didn't know much about Santa Barbara before we arrived but had heard from one of Ross's work mates that it is a must see place. We checked into a funky motel with the lovely king size bed only a ten minute walk away from the shops restaurant and 1 mile from the beach. The downside was that it was pouring with rain, but we took shelter in Ruby's Cafe (mexican) and I ate the biggest burrito in the world! We had enough money [View Full Entry]
