I'm heading to Tasikoki to volunteer with the animals at the wildlife center for just over a month. Tasikoki is a wildlife rescue center dedicated to stopping the illegal animal trade. North Sulawesi is a hotspot for smuggling wildlife out of Indonesia onto the global market via the Philippines. The rescue centre employs a team of dedicated local staff, who care for the animals physical and mental rehabilitation as they undergo quarantine and their preparation for release. There are hundreds of different animal species at Tasikoki from all over Indonesia including: sun bears, gibbons, orangutans, deer, and the javan leopard to name a few.
