We made it safely to amsterdam and to our beautiful little amsterdam apartment. We have spent the past couple of days enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes of this wonderful city. We visited cafes, red light district, toured the canals and ate in very authentic dutch resturants. (which were delicious) Heineiken is the generic brand of beer around here, its 2 euros for a pint. (Gary, you would be in heaven here and Belguim). We are now off to visit some museums and relax in the park. We have had a fabulous journey together and enjoyed every moment and experience that we shared. Today we ventured out into Brugge to explore this qaint little town. We just picked a direction and walked, we explored some of the canals, the market square and Kaitlin inspected a lot of clothing shops.. :) After that we headed over to the Belguim chocolate factory to see what we wanted to try today.. We picked up about 15 chocolates and they were all yummy. After lunch we decided that we wanted to come back and watch the movie In Bruge. The movie was sort of depressing but it was funny at the same time especially since we were sitting in the city it was about. Decided to get out of dodge early aka Bayuex and find our way to Bruges earlier then we planned.. after some train hopping and missed reservations we made it here earlier .. which is great because so far we are loving this little city.. The hostel has a "chill out" room and we are probably going to watch the film "In Bruge", seems rather fitting for where we are :). I would like to shout out a few thanks 1) Toni, thanks for the heads up about flip flops in the shower, good call 2) Susan, thanks for the back pack and little cloth bags inside, they have come in handy. Beers are super cheaper here compared to snobby Paris and Bayeux, thank goodness :) Belgium beer rocks my world, off to drink some now.. ... read more
Bayeux and the Normandy D-Day beaches

We headed to Bayeux for the sole purpose of visiting the Dday beaches and getting the full tour. We booked a half day tour ahead of time and were told to wait outside out hotel for 8:30 am.. The driver finally showed up at about 9 due to bad traffic apparently downtown. Our driver looked 19 and fresh out of school but we had a combined age in the van of over 300 due to all the other 4 people on our tour who ended up being all very nice. The weather was apparently very similar to June 6th 1944. Wet, rainy and bleek but we like the invaders mangaed to forge through it and get to see everything we wanted. Spent the day relaxing, making sure Kaitlin got better and doing laundry... was a productive day and the rest helped. In the evening we decided to head back to the Eiffel tower to see it at night and grab some dinner. The Eiffel tower by night is even more beautiful and we took many pictures together with it in the background while helping other couples take pictures as well. After dinner we grabbed a banana and neutella crepe that was super yummy.. tomorrow we head to bayeux and hopefully some sun.. (Pics will be updated when we find a computer.)... read more

Today we decided to brave the cold and head into Paris to explore. Our first stop was the Eiffel tower. It was very beautiful but sooo crowded. The line to buy a ticket was about 2 hours and then the line to use that ticket was another hour. If you wanted to brave the wind and take the stairs then it was only 4.50 but that line was almost 45 mins to just buy the ticket.. needless to say we just walked around a bit, enjoyed the beauty of it all and decided to head off to higher ground to take some more pictures. After we were done with that we were a little hungry and had to find a water closet so decided to stop in a random Paris cafe for a beer and crepes.. ... read more

Today is Jrod's birthday! Yay for him, and yes Mike, I sang him happy birthday from you guys. For some odd reason he planned our longest travel day {10 hours} on this birthday, hmmm. Anyway, we woke up and caught a number of trains to get to wonderful paris, and we love the place we are staying. Let me tell you, the subway aka metro is super easy to read and follow...NOT! holy cow its confusing, but we made it and went to a french japanese restaurant to celebrate Jared's birthday. We will have a french pastry or some such treat tomorrow when the bakery's are open, as we didnt get here until 8 pm. ... read more

Today was our relaxing day. We slept until 9:30, Kaitlin cooked an awesome breakfast and we headed out into the city with no plans at all. We decided to walk for a bit and explore the side streets outside of the touristy part.. After a bit of walking we decided to go get our favorite food here .. Donar sandwiches lol yummy.. After that we walked to the park to sit and watch the mountains while eating some fresh gelato.. Although very sore from the day before we decided that we wanted to do the electric tandom bike so we headed over to the rental place and negotiated for 2 hours instead of the standard 4.. Today we visited the mountain Jungfraujoch, it is the highest observation point in all of Europe. We had to make sure we woke up early to catch all the trains up the mountains so that we could enjoy the afternoon there. After 3 trains on a very beautiful and scenic journey we finally reached the top and realized that it is even more beautiful up here.. Just as we got there our camera battery died so we had to find somewhere to pretend to want some food so that we could charge the camera to show off this trip..
