anything to know about Germany... Hello Stephanie,
There is lots to know about Germany! How old are you? Where are you going? What do you have questions about? If you're only here for a summer, just go with the flow, I'd say. And try to learn as much German BEFORE going as you can, so that you can more fully participate and take advantage of perfecting your German in Germany rather than just learning it here.... Alles gute!
Buena Suerte :) Paula, best of luck to you! Glad you found my blog. Where will you and your husband reside? How long before the wedding will you get there? You can really find gorgeous clothes in Turkey, so you might just go shopping for a dress for your henna night there. My henna night was a little out of the ordinary because it was co-ed and at a hotel. But things are very modern in Istanbul, anyway. Have a wonderful wedding! Ojala que tengas una boda fenomenal :)
Hallo I am spending the summer in Germany this coming year. Is there anything I should know? I am very intrigued by the culture and the country itself.
You are the best!! Thank you very very much to share your story with us, im a mexican getting married with a turkish in 3 weeks in the beautiful city of Istanbul, his mom aready said we will have a henna night one day before the wedding and just know im learning what is this about, i wasnt ready at all, i was planning to bring a party dress :D OMG thanks for your help, wish you the best of lucks!! xoxo
Glad you are Happy Saskia,
We saw some beautiful cities in Germany this summer on our Rhine River cruise.
When Uncle Stan was working, he enjoyed a drive through the Black Forest.
I think Bavaria is just like heaven.
No place could be more beautiful!
Still,I wish you were closer so we could celebrate Thanksgiving etc.
I'm very happy for you that you have adjusted so well to Germany.
They celebrated the 20 year anniversay of the Berlin Wall coming down in Atlanta. Our friend from Jasper was there, and told the story for Fox news about how he escaped by jumping over the wall. He thought he would be shot. We just don't realize how lucky we are to have freedom both in Germany and the U.S.
help)) I very much want Teutoni Elegance 2009 2 in 1 where in Germany it is possible заказть with delivery in Rossiiju, or prompt factory Teutonia co-ordinates, I will ask the girlfriend living in Germany to buy of it to me! Thanks Lena
too busy having fun... There simply aren't that many great pictures of our henna night because everyone was having too much fun participating! We're lucky we have any :)
You were a beautiful bride!!!! Saskia,
Thanks for the interesting story about your Turkish wedding. I only had the honor of seeing the Colorado one,but you were beautiful at both weddings, and by the way your hair looked beautiful even if it was uncomfortable.
Seems like yesterday,
Love, Aunt Marilyn
Too Funny!!! Good story Saskia! It's true, that truth is stanger than fiction. Have you been writing any more? This sounds like the beginning of an intersting book. The difference in cultures is so interesting.
Love,
Aunt Marilyn
Congratulations on being the parent of 2 wonderful(I presume the one who is not photographed in this blog is just as wonderful as the one who is) children!
I live in Munich, Germany. I find the medical services in all areas good in Germany. They pour money into it. It is a pity that other aspects of society here make parenting so difficult. We have lived here in Germany since my daugher was 1 year old. I would never live in Germany with a little child again. Even the fantastic medical services dont make up for societies attitude towards parents with little children.
To buy at home or in Germany? Hello Jennifer,
In my opinion, wait and buy one here. They are a bit more expensive than there, but they are better equipped for German winters. I think that if I'd bought one in the US, I would have really regretted it after seeing all the cool strollers here! Good luck in your move, and take it easy. :) Moving while pregnant is more stressful than we give ourselves credit for!
Moving from US to Germany Loved the article and appreciated all the information. I am moving to Germany in December and will be due a few months after that. Should I purchase a stroller here in the US and take it just to be on the safe side or wait to try to get one of the ones you suggested?
Sevgiler

i wish one day been in a turkish wedding..
kendine iyi bak
Tales from the Expat Harem Thanks for your comment! I do have that book, and enjoyed it thoroughly. In fact, I think I'll bring it with me this summer when we go to Turkey, to read it again :)
henna :) You're welcome! Glad it helps :)
You can get Henna from Indian stores. Lucky for you, in traditional Turkish weddings, there are no fancy designs. Just a blob of henna in the middle of the hands, with gold (or fake gold) coins stuck in the middle!
Thank you Thank you so much for the informatin that you have given. I am a wedding planner and I am putting a wedding together for a couple that sound very similar to you and you rhusband. I want to do everything I can to include both cultures. My gosh this has been so helpful, can you tell me where I get henna and what is needed for the application and if there are symbols that need to be applied
No worries Having a first baby is a life-changing experience that NOTHING can really prepare you for. Even knowing it's going to be life changing does not prepare you. It's hard to be far away from family and friends because you don't get much help so you can get away on your own for a few hours, so you might feel a bit panicked that you'll never be able to do anything without the baby ever again. That was the hardest thing for me. But you really do have to network, find yourself some friends in a similar situation, and build yourself up a support group and "family" of friends. That is the best advice I can give you. There are many foreign women's clubs in many places in Germany, and you should be able to find help there. If you are in Munich, you could join the International Women's Club of Munich (http://www.internationalwomensclub.org) for instant connections. Good luck!
Good luck :) Will you have your baby in Germany, then? I had a really great experience, and was so glad that we got to have our second child here, as well. I do not envy my friends in the States, to be honest. Having a baby at all is a life-changing experience, and could be scary in a foreign country, but the health care is quite good here in Germany and at least that is not something to worry about! :)
We moved to Europe so that we could experience life here and travel around easily. Our three sons were born here, and these days, most of our pictures are of them! We only planned on staying in Germany for a few years, but it's rapidly becoming HOME.
