The last time we wrote was in Utah on our way out East! We haven’t been very good, but we have been filling our 4 month autumn with lots of biking, ‘hiking’ and exploring. After dropping K and B off we headed north again to the rolling hills around Central Utah. We stopped off at a few of the National Parks; Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon. The Aspens were yellow and the stormy weather made for dramatic views! We carried on east into Colorado and one of the biking meccas - Fruita. We obtained a map and shredded the trails for 3 days. They were an awesome mix of single track with tough rocky sections on the edge of a cliff to flowy and smooth fun. We headed up into the mountains south to try our ... read more

Well we have had a very busy and fun filled month since leaving Revelstoke - it is going to be a bit of a stretch to get all that we have done written down, plus it would probably put you to sleep! I am writing this as Juz is driving us up the Interstate 15 away from Sin City and back towards some cooler mountains in our seemingly all of a sudden very spacious van. But I am getting a little ahead of my self. We met Karina and Brendan in Revelstoke and and promptly shoe-horned 2 more mountain bikes, snowboards, a bike rack plus around 75 kg of miscellaneous gear into Chad. Amazingly it all fit in quite comfortably. Less suprisingly the extra 250kg of weight did little for Chad’s already sedate pace, and made ... read more

Well, we have 9 more days of work and then we are off! We have spent the last few months in the office, cleaning, serving pancakes, answering phones, dumpster diving, cleaning 'washrooms', cutting trees and making many bundles of firewood, as well as security and chasing Black bears. It has been an interesting time for us both, as thinking outside the box is discouraged and coming from professional work, that aspect has been hard. For all the boredom and frustration we have managed to save a tidy amount for the next exciting adventures. We have had a nice time in Revelstoke and the environs have offered plenty of things to see and do on the 1 day off a week we have had. One of the favourite 'days off' we have had, was a jaunt up ... read more

We haven't been very good! Sorry about the length of time from the last blog. We have got into the work, work, work,.. regime. Since we last wrote we have been working hard and trying to save our pennies and loonies. Rob had a job interview at Parks Canada (similar to D.O.C for those in the know) which he felt went well. For the interview we had a weekend in Kelowna which is about 3-4hrs west and south. We spent some coin in the massive (!) second clothing shop and found an interview outfit for about $30. Kelowna was beautiful and dry in comparison to Revy. It is sheltered between the mountains to the west and east. On the first day we went for a nice bike in Myra-Bellevue Park. It had been ravaged by fire ... read more

Its been a while since we wrote - 26 days in fact. Since we last wrote we have seen many of animals; black bear, moose, elk, mule eared deer, white tailed deer, mountain goats, big horned sheep and osprey, found work at KOA (Kampgrounds of America), biked (thats not that surprising I know), broken and fixed Chad the Van and meet some awesome people who bought the first van we looked at in Vancouver. When Rob last wrote we were in Golden. We stayed there for a few more days biking, walking and meeting up with Steffi and Jesper. They were travelling in a GMC van, which was a little older than ours, but looked like it came from the same factory as Chad. We had looked at 'Daisy' before Chad, but didn't (obviously) buy it. ... read more

April 22nd 2010

Well we have been in Canada for a while now and it is my turn to have a go at the blog - to show willing and all that! I believe that when we last left you on Vancouver Island the weather was crap and we woke up to our first flat tyre. this was interesting as the jack wouldn't fit under the wheel so we had to arrange a cunning set up of drift wood from the beach. All good, flat tyre off, spare on, remove driftwood, spare tyre flat. Oh bugger...any we got it sorted in the end. We made our way down the island in a couple of days via some snowshoeing, mountain biking and visiting my Grandmothers cousin. We also found spring as we went south, we must have been driving in ... read more

In the last week and a half we have had only 1 day with no rain! So we have been embracing the rain and getting out there and enjoying it, however there is only so much you can tolerate in the van! Speaking of the van, we discovered it doesn't suit the name Cher, and we discovered a misrepresentation of gender, so it is now Chad. The last blog was while we were wwoofing, which was great. We had been missing some physical work, after a summer of house building. Unfortunately, due to the rain we weren't able to mill anymore wood for Renee and Henry, so we have enviously chopped them a winters' load of firewood and stacked it in the house. We also planted some trees and made a stone surround for a new ... read more

March 29th 2010

We are mobile! On Wednesday the 17th we cruised in Cher the Chevy van to West Vancouver for a walk up Lynn Peak. We stomped up a little hill to a view point in the trees. It was nice to be outside enjoying the weather. There was a little bit of snow up there and Karen (friends of Karina and Brendon's who we stayed with in Vancouver) set us up. "Look some bear prints" "Where?" "There....." "Really....oh...". They weren't, but they had us fooled for a SHORT while. That evening, Rob decided that he had had enough of the city, so we hit the right hand side of the road and crawled our way to Squamish. A touristy village, with plenty of outdoorsy activities. It has an amazing rock face called the Chief towering over the ... read more
