This weekend my friends and I went to Lagos, Portugal. It was about a five hour bus ride from Seville. Me and seven other friends left Friday afternoon for our weekend getaway! We got to Lagos around 8 pm, checked into our hostel and went out for dinner. It was my first European hostel experience and it was awesome! Since there was eight of us, we actually got our own apartment with six beds (we had to share) and a bathroom to ourselves and a full kitchen for less than 20 euros a night! Mama (the owner of the hostel) even made us crapes for breakfast with fresh strawberries and bananas! On Saturday we laid out on the beach all day (got the full European beach experience for the first time if you know what I ... read more

Well I moved into my homestay on Saturday afternoon! THEY ARE SO NICE. I love themmm! I have a padre Fernando who is the nicest man alive. He usually cooks for the family and he makes pretty good food. Last night for cena (dinner) he made the family pizza to try "American"! (even though that's Italian...) My hija (sister) Alba is 20 and a photography major. She is out of school for the summer but during the day she works as a photographer. I live in a huge house in the center of the city (1 block from the main shopping avenue ... UH OH) I live on the fourth floor all by myself. All that is on my floor is a laundry room, my room and a roof top deck that looks over the city ... read more

I am about to take my first siesta (A spanish tradition in Espana. The work day has a 3 hour break from 2-5 pm for "siesta" or a nap. Stores are closed and the town is quiet. Not everyone has a siesta everyday, but when in Sevilla... Today was really fun! In the morning we learned about academics and housing in Sevilla. I will have classes 3 hours a day (10:00-13:00), 5 days a week. Each class is 3 weeks long. My first class is Intermediate Spanish and my second class is Public Health in Developed Countries. I also signed up for "intercambias" (I will meet with a Spanish student who goes to La Universidad de Sevilla who wants to practice English. We get to choose the place to meet, usually a tapas bar or for ... read more

I MADE IT!! I ended up missing my flight in Madrid (wasn't even close!) So then I was delayed about 2 hours, but a lot of that 2 hours was checking in and going through security so it was all good. And I got upgraded to first class for the remaining flights I missed. FREE KIT KATS. I'm in my hotel room. I'll be staying here until Sunday (I think) for orientation. I think I move in with my family (who I still don't know who they are!) on sunday and I classes start monday! On my first flight I sat next to two girls headed to a town about an hour southeast of Sevilla to study abroad. They went to JMU and we knew a bunch of people in common and had an awesome flight ... read more

With three days left before I leave for my study abroad in Seville, Spain, I think I am mostly excited and nervous. I think a lot of my fears will be eased when I actually get to Seville. I think once I am there meeting friends and meeting my family will be easier than I think. I guess I just really don't know what to expect. I know whatever Spain is like, I will LOVE IT! I still have lots of packing and last minute things to do. 67 hours until I depart!!... read more
