Well Hello folks, after a reasonably pleasant Thai Airways flight to, and overnight stay in, Bangkok, I hot-footed it straight across the Thailand-Cambodia border to Siem Reap in order to see the legendary Angkor Wat. Something I have been meaning to do since I saw a model of the temple in Bangkok's Grand Palace some five years ago... Catching the 5:50 am train from Bangkok to Aranya Prathet was a slightly painful 6 hour trip on the world's sloooooowest train, but a bargain at a mere 48Baht (about $1.50!, beat that First Great Eastern!). Train was busy, lots of stops, people going to markets with their produce, kids commuting to school etc Crossing the border into Poi Pet in Cambodia was reasonably painless.
