Dive No. 5 - 17/05/06 - HMS Prince of Wales - Depth 58.8m Time 98-min - The SCS Trip I always intended getting down to this wreck, just to say I’d done it. As it happened it turned out to be the best dive I’ve ever done and also the deepest. Prior to the dive Jack gave us the practical dive planning lecture and we calculated our dive plan. Once again Jack led the dive down the shot line towards the stern or the up turned wreck. The shot line was fastened to inner most propshaft but fixed to the shot [View Full Entry]

HMS Prince of Wales (Battleship, 1941-1941) HMS Prince of Wales, a 35,000-ton King George V class battleship built Birkenhead, England, was completed in March 1941. In late May, while still not fully operational, she was sent into action with the German battleship Bismarck and received significant damage from heavy gunfire. Following repairs, Prince of Wales carried Prime Minister Winston Churchill across the Atlantic to Newfoundland. There, on 9-12 August, Churchill joined U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt for the Atlantic Charter conference, the first meeting between the two English-spea [View Full Entry]

Dive No. 3 - 16/05/06 - HMS Repulse Depth-50.0m Time 86-min This was the wreck that I think everyone was looking forward to diving, we had steamed all night to get there. We were awakened the next morning by Jack shouting briefing in 30 minutes. Normally this would not be welcomed but we'd all had an early night and being a dry boat, within the 30 minutes we were up on deck having had a light breakfast, ready for Jack's briefing. We were moored onto the stern of the wreck, to the inner starboard propeller shaft. The wreck is laid on [View Full Entry]

Dive No. 1 - 15/05/06 - Seven Skies Depth-43.3m Time 96-min This was the first dive of the week and we listened to Jack give his briefing on the dive and the techniques, disciplines and rules for the diving during the coming week. We made a gradual descent down the transfer line to the main anchor line. At this point we could see the funnel of the wreck. We made a brief check on our equipment before descending further. Because this was the first dive, we decided not to enter the wreck but to explorer the outside. The super structure was [View Full Entry]

We arose this Sunday morning after a good night's sleep and headed down to the restaurant area of the hotel for a disappointing breakfast before checking out of the Holiday Inn Atrium hotel. Once checked out we all meet in the foyer of the hotel and waited for our mini buses to transfer all of us to the Raffles Marina where we would join out dive boat and home for the next six nights, Motor Vessel Mata Ikan. When the mini buses arrived we set off on the twenty-minute drive to the marina where on arrival we unloaded our bags and [View Full Entry]

Jacky and I had already discussed sharing a twin room here, after all she would be sharing a cabin on board the dive boat with me and another man, so it seemed pointless paying for a second room when there was a spare bed in mine, so we agreed to share a room. When I booked in I was offered an upgrade to a superior room, free of charge only to be led to a double room, not a twin. Fortunately, after a phone call to reception, this embarrassing situation was rectified without too much fuss, although the bell boy was [View Full Entry]

Honest if you let me in here I promise I won't be long and I'll only have just the one drink... Honest
What a fantastic experience to stay at Raffles, this world famous hotel, be it only for one night. After booking in I was shown to my suite where my personal valet introduced himself with a bottle of Champaign in hand. The suite had a dining room, bedroom, double dressing room, and toilet, bath and shower. Surprisingly there was no kettle but a flash of hot water but after a phone call, this was soon remedied. The hotel has it's own shopping centre built into the complex where the general public can come and go but to gain access to the accommodation, [View Full Entry]

After such a pleasant flight from Bangkok I jumped into a taxi and headed off to the YMCA were Jacky had sorted me a room out. When I got there, Jacky had left a message saying 'gone shopping, back soon' so I took a long overdue shower before we met up. That afternoon I needed to do some shopping for clothes because I had only fetched the minimum amount of clothes so as to save my weight allowance for dive kit. I needed some tee shirts and I wanted a couple of long sarongs to cover my legs from the sun, [View Full Entry]

The 10 and a 1/2 hour flight to Bangkok seemed very long. When I boarded the plane, my seat number put me in a window seat where I immediately felt claustrophobic. The Asian couple next to me asked if I would swap seat with their friend, who was in an isle seat in the opposite row. I snapped their hands off at this offer and changed seats. As the journey progressed I dozed off to sleep several times, each time to be woken by something. At one point I listened to my MP3 player but needed the volume up high to [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Well i got to Amsterdam and spent quite an enjoyable day there although i was quite tired. My plans to get some sleep before i set off fell foul and by the time I got overthere I was knacked so it was just a brief tour round. I did come accross a couple from Brasil who couldn't speak a word of english, so we really got on well. We met on a canal cruise tour then later in the streets. After a bit of lunch I headed back to the airport and crashed out until my flight to Bangkok. [View Full Entry]
