Geo: -27.4676, 153.028The organisation was spot on and we were ready and packed for the 7.30 am arrival of the maxi cab to the airport. Well two of us were. When the cab arrived Anth was in the bathroom wrapped in his towel cleaning his teeth! No worries. By the time we hauled the endless stream of luggage to the cab he was ready and we were on our way. Michael übered his way there and we were in line ready for the "processing" . Luggage checked and forms filled we managed to get our refunds sorted at the TRS and purchased the essentials from Duty Free.Everyone was seated and of course excited to DEPART. But nothing happened. The aircraft did not budge and the captain announced that there was a security issue ... and gave ... read more

Geo: -27.4676, 153.028Despite leaving so late we arrived in Brisbane almost on time but were held up for 20 minutes with a flight inspection because one of the passengers was removed unwell. We had to have quarantine board to check out the details.Mac struggled to get the gear out of the overhead locker and struggled to make his ways through the walkway but was determined to make it without the aid of a wheelchair. For the first time on the trip I was responsible for the luggage pickup and managed to take us to the wrong carousel and to wrong customs exit to make our exit even more laborious for Mac.Michael's arrival was a welcome relief and he was quick to offer Mac the Ventolin puffer. Despite Michael's insistence we didn't detour to the hospital and ... read more

Geo: 34.0533, -118.245Whistler to Vancouver and then on to Los Angeles - Mac had to travel 2 181 kilometres to the rendezvous and I had to traverse 4366 kms and change time zones but there were no holdups and no mistakes. As arranged, we met in the international checkin to start the last leg of the journey.Have to say we were both travel weary by the time we got there and were keen to start the journey home. Unfortunately, QANTAS weren't quite as excited as we were and there was an hour delay before we finally boarded for the 13 hour trip home. Had a great little "duo" seat allocation towards the back of the plane and had a bit of extra room for our stuff.Mac settled into his seat and barely moved. Uncharacteristically, he slept ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954So this is what a parade looks like. Bring out the red and white it is time to mingle with the locals and get your Canada on!There were bears and mounties and lots of maple leaves and syrup and just because it's Whistler it is certainly easy to spot the Aussie.Canada Day is the national day of Canada. It celebrates the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the Constitution Act, which united the three separate colonies of the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada. Guess we saw all of this information outside the Parliament in Victoria!Mindy, Ian and Wayne loved the day amongst the locals but it was tinged with a little sadness because this was the last day on ... read more

Geo: 39.9522, -75.1624The farewells were hard. Had to set lots of alarms to make sure that I was in the foyer of The Aspens for the 5.30 am departure for the marathon journey to Philadelphia with an expected arrival time of just after midnight.Lots of cuddles for Mindy and reassurances that our White Christmas adventure was just months away. A glance back and a wave and the journey had begun - this time I was heading down the mountain in a 10 seater shuttle bus, with a view just as spectacular on the Sea to Sky Highway as it was on the first bus ride up. Also the first ride either up or down the mountain that I have enjoyed without getting sick. It was almost a "normal" car ride. Best way to travel. (Mental note ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954"Ah ha ha ha" cackled the scheming Witchy-Poo Mindy Moo tapping the tips of her fingers together. "Now that we have got rid of Mummy Dearest after scaring her half to death on the scooters, let's see if we can push Daddy off the edge of the Whistler Peak on a mountain bike."Good opportunity for a a bit of fiction here! But let's get to the facts.Bottom line - Mindy beat Daddy for the first time in her life at ANYTHING! Despite his best efforts Mac was not the super hero on the day. But he did give it his very best shot.To be fair, even the fit out was a little intimidating. So much safety and protective gear to get into hardly inspires confidence. There's a helmet, shin guards, ankle gaurds, knee guards, ... read more

Geo: 50.1164, -122.953Who in their right mind wakes up one morning and says..... "Think it would be great to put an elderly, blind, overweight unfit woman on a motor scooter and send her out onto the highway!?%$#" Declaring right up front that it was a BAD BAD BAD idea but Mindy and Ian (with the support of Mac) voted this as the number one thing to do and sold this as the "pinacle" of the Whistler experience. Now that I think back on it - I don't recall seeing any other tourist doing this EVER!Mindy and Ian literally ran down the mountain to throw their legs over those scooters. Mindy had been making phone calls for a month to ensure our booking was in place and had called in to the store many times to check ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954So we're back and it feels just like coming home. We know where we are going and how to get there. The snow has definitely retreated and the days are warm and despite wanting to see a bear - there are none waiting for us today. But one thing hasn't changed. Our guides are still pushing and prodding and getting us outdoors to enjoy MORE of the dizzying sights of the mountain. The weather is perfect with blue skies and no wind and this is the combination that Mindy has been waiting for to get out on the Peak2Peak. This gondola is in the Guiness Book of Records because it is the longest unsupported lift span in the world! It is a feat of engineering that links Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains and in the ski season means ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954It was all hands on deck this morning to get everything sorted and back in the suitcases. We are itinerants again, living out of the suitcases for this last part of the trip.Of course, the alarms were unnecessary because we were a little excited and were looking forward to heading back to Mindy and Ian...well, not the bus ride bit!The whole "get off the boat" thing was a bit of an anticlimax. A last stop in the Garden Cafe for breakfast, farewell and hugs for Daryl, our last washy washy wave to Maria and we were trundling our luggage down the gangway. We were loaded.....the backpack was stuffed to make the bags lighter for the bus weighin and Mac had the mandatory bottl-o loot but we thought taking care of our own luggage was ... read more

Geo: 49.7529, -124.761So here we are, Day 14. It has all disappeared so quickly. The last day and it just so happens to be Father's Day and the summer solstice....the longest hours of daylight. A late brunch started the day again with perfect timing for the BBQ. Mac had been planning to try it all cruise, but for whatever reason we always seemed to just miss out. Not today. No way. In line and right there for the fresh pulled pork and crackling. What a great start to Father's Day.Have to say that as the last day of our cruise it was a non-event, but to be fair that was our choice. We did a bit of balcony time and watched the ocean and land slide by (a few waves every now and then), took in ... read more
