censorship! I forgot (but was reminded when we went to the cinema again this weekend) to mention the very heavy and obvious censoring of film content in Malaysia.
In Gone Baby Gone there were loads of really poor cuts to the film, where the shot suddenly ended, or it jumped about a metre to the right where they had poorly cut some seconds out of the film. Not exactly subtle! Lots of dubbing of the f*** word too. It all seemed rather arbitrary though as there was still plenty of bad language allowed - they even kept in the worst example! I reckon there must be an allowance of how many times there can be a swear word in every minute of film. It makes for hilarious viewing anyway!
*****update***** Barisan Nasional still have the overall majority (predictably). But this time the opposition won just over a third of seats. Seems it is typically areas in the west of the Peninsular which are more traditionally BN/ more prosperous and advanced areas that have voted in the opposition parties. There were absolute landslides in some places - including Penang and KL itself (all but 1 seat went to the opposition). My taxi driver this morning was very excited telling me about it!
