After I finished work for good, I decided it would be a good idea to head out to the coast... and so I did, along with my good friends and roommates, Miriam and Oliver. Miriam borrowed Maria Jose’s jeep for the week so we had some wheels of our very own to go wherever we pleased. We decided to go to Canoa first, which is our favorite beach in all of Ecuador. We chilled out in Canoa for a couple days and then went south to Manta which is a very important port city in Ecuador (where Ollie bought a 16$ Spiderman Nerf Ball... crazzzzyyyy... but totally worth it! Its super fun and way better than a normal nerf ball... (stupid normal nerf balls, eh!?) haha anyway... we then went to Montecristi, which I am ... read more

I decided to travel up to the Imbabura province for a few days before I had to go to the jungle to work again. I left Thursday morning for Ibarra, which is the capital of the Imbabura province. “The White City” (Ibarra) lies at the foot of the Imbabura Volcano. It’s 115 km northeast of Quito, but it takes like 3 hours to get there from Quito (because of the roads and the mountains but mostly due to the fact that the bus stops for every single person even though the bus is completely full). I was super impressed when I got there, it’s a very attractive, clean city and I didn’t see any poverty. Ibarreños (people from Ibarra) are very nice! Plus, Ibarra has the nicest bus terminal I’ve ever been to in my ... read more

This vacation was off to a rough start when my Wenstar left us for Holland. We had a going away dinner party for her Monday night, sooo sad, but we still had fun, because how could you not have fun with Wenstar???? Impossible! Mads came to Quito before going to Brazil and then Denmark again. We lazied around for a couple days watching the OC and we went to “Mitad del Mundo”. I don’t exactly know how this works, but there are like 3 different museums who claim they all have the real equator line. Apparently the one we went to this time was the “real one”, they even have GPS proof!!!! But we got to experiment and our tour guide was really cool and he definitely knew his stuff. Plus, we got to balance ... read more

Laguna Quilotoa is a gorgeous crater lake that was formed after the Volcano’s last eruption in 1797. This site is at like 4000m above sea level, so its freeeezzzzing cold (bring a lot of warm clothes)! Today, it is the home of a small community that gets to see this beauty everyday. When we got there Saturday afternoon after traveling from Quito to Latacunga to Zumbahua to (finally) Quilotoa, we found a hostel, got some food and went to see the beautiful lake which is like 2 seconds from the town. It was almost completely covered by fog since it was almost nightfall but we could definitely still see its beauty. We chilled out in the Quilotoa for a bit before trying to entertain ourselves with drawing one another and playing games, as you can ... read more

Our fabulous adventure in the freezing cold Andes… Friday night (while still on a hang over from Thursday, by the way… totally fun night!) we took the bus from Quito to Riombamba to spend the night there in order to leave bright and early Saturday morning for our exciting adventure. And we did so, well I wasn’t so bright that early, actually kind of pissed that someone would actually wake me up at 8h30am. Honestly! haha But after breakfast and coffee everything was fine and we took the bus to the nearest spot to the volcano possible. We got dropped off in the middle of no where, seriously THE middle of no where… one road, hills, mountains, a lot of fog, wild vicuñas, half of the volcano (due to the fog) and us. Since we ... read more

Tour Ecologico en la Amazonia !!  South America » Ecuador By Jeh Jeh May 14th 2007 JehanneThey sometimes organize jungle tours for the workers, so you can be sure that I was all over the situation. I reserved as soon as I found out there was one. It was a short but sweet trip on a Sunday afternoon. It was super nice outside and really worth it. We went boating and made our way to the Yuturi Lodge, which is super beautiful by the way. We saw many colorful birds, insects, gorgeous butterflies, and no, I did not see, nor did I go swim with an anaconda. Not yet, anyway! Haha Anyway enjoy the pictures… ... read more

Well, after 2 weeks of being stuck in the jungle, working, I really wanted to get out there and travel something fierce! I had heard many great things about the Southern Highlands and especially Cuenca and was super excited to go. I left SOLA Tuesday night, took a 12 hour bus right to Loja, which I think is a record, because when Darren used to live in Loja he said it would take like 17 hours to get to Quito....either he’s crazy or the bus driver was crazy... or both! Anyway ... this pretty much sums up my trip: Loja: is a small yet very charming city in the very south of Ecuador. Loja city is the capital of Loja province. I though it seemed like a very mini Quito, just because it’s situated in ... read more

Waiting at the airport for my dad was probably the longest wait of my life! Not only was his plane LATE, but I was obviously super excited and a little nervous for his arrival! I hadn’t seen anyone from back home in over 7 months, and to have my DAD come... wow! It was unreal! So when he finally arrived we went straight to the hostel. It was like Christmas and a HALF in March!! (Got tons of presents from my mommy!) THANKS MOM!!!!! He was only here for 7 days, so we wanted to make the best of it. We spent: •2 days in Quito: On the first day, we visited “Mitad del Mundo” (Center of the World). It’s cool because you can jump from one hemisphere to the other, but I was more ... read more

For Carnival, Darren, Ian, Pierre, Emily and I decided to go to CANOA! Its an amazing beach in the Manabi province. We took a bus from Quito to San Vicente (8 hours) and from there got a ride in the back of a truck to Canoa (30 minutes), which is a little north of San Vicente. Canoa is, BY FAR, my favorite beach in Ecuador, mostly because everyone is so chilled out but also because the beach is gorgeous and big, there is a lot of beautiful sand and lets not forget the sweet ass rocky caves at the very end of the beach. Usually Canoa is very "tranquilo", BUT because it was Carnival everyone was at the beach, so Canoa was pretty packed. There were NO hostals, so we were forced to tent, which ... read more

Ok first things first, I did not give myself this nickname Jane of the Jungle, I swear haha everyone calls me Jane cuz they cant say my name and im in the jungle... sooo put two and two together... Anyways... I received the opportunity to work in the jungle! Yes, still teaching English and still for Wall Street! Wall Street has a contract with PetroEcuador, so I get to stay in a really effin high tech camp for two weeks, free, no cleaning, no cooking…. I don’t know about you guys, but for me… this is PARADISE! P.S. Using my two weeks OFF to travel and whatnot! Although it was super hard to leave all my friends and students in Quito, I am enjoying this! I’m meeting a lot of really nice, cool people, there’s plenty ... read more
