After leaving Antigua last Friday afternoon, we rode in the back of a pickup truck up to a place called the Earth Lodge, near a town called El Hato, on the outskirts of Antigua. The place was started up by a Canadian named Drew and an American named Brianna 6 years ago, and has gorgeous views of the surrounding valleys and city of Antigua. On our second day there, we hiked for a couple of hours out into the surrounding hills, and saw some amazing scenery- for miles in all directions, the villagers have planted corn fields, and the trails which they use to get to their fields, though minimal, are enough to get around on well enough. We´ve spent the last three days in Antigua, and I feel as if I´ve had my fill. The city is beautiful, and very easy to get aquainted with; three volcanoes surround the city, and in the morning the weather has been cloud-free so the sights of these have been awesome. Our first night, we stayed at a place called the Jungle Party Hostel, which was interesting; Thursdays are "ladie´s nights," but since there weren´t many ladies around, they gave the guys drink specials if we agreed to put on dresses. It was an interesting way to unwind after a long journey down via too many airplanes. Here we go: 8 hours from now, I'll be leaving the country for Guatemala City and then...who knows? Our tentative plan is to move through all of Central America and then fly to Buenos Aires for Christmas and New Year's. From there, we'll head to Patagonia and then up the west coast of South America to Peru and Bolivia. To all of my friends and family back home: thanks a lot for your love and support!
