Your Vacation
Thanks for sending the blog! I'm enjoying your vacation right along with you two! I haven't seen any smoke, so I believe your house is still standing... The Halloween Parade was a bit bigger than last year's. Cute costumes...didn't miss too much. We had about 7 trick or treaters all night. I ate more than I handed out. Continue to enjoy your travels! Thongs
Not to be showing my age here, but when I was a kid and rubber "flip flops" were first, yes, first, introduced, they were called thongs. There is a brief period in my memory when I could not tell if people were talking about their feet or their nether regions. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time and you both deserve it! We live in Lisbon Portugal and can drive to either Toledo or Seville. Toledo will take us 6 hours + and Seville 4 hours + Toledo sounds rather small and Seville much more modern. Given having to choose between the two cities, which might you suggest? What a pity it rained when you went to Seville.

Seville is the city
Hi Brian, Toledo is a small walled city and we did have a great time. Given the distance you need to travel I suggest Seville. It is a bigger city but there is much more to see and do than Toledo. Make sure to visit the Alcazar, the grounds are amazing and close by are a lot of tapas bars to get a bite to eat. Have a great time. Jim

If you want to have a good drink with a delicious tapa and be setting with the Alhambra palace in front of your eyes, you must come to Granada!. I recommend you The White Nest Hostel. It is located in the best area of the Albayzin with magnificent view of the palace and paseo de los tristes. You can find a young international group of like minded people, in fresh vibrant surroundings. You will have a great time to remember your entire lifeĀ… I propose you to stay in Hostels Granada and experience the life of Albayzin, Sacromonte and the heart of Granada itself.

OOOOOOHHH!
I am sitting in green pajamas drinking green tea and turning green with envy. Visiting Athens has been a life long dream: I am living my dream vicariously. Thank you for sharing your photos and comments. I am doing my best to keep John together while you vacation, Lisa. I even cooked last night and plan to "reheat" tonight; it seems I do know where the kitchen is. Keep the blog coming; those of us at home so appreciate it! Max

Spain Recommendations
Hi Reagan, when we get back home I will do my best to answer your questions. I do recommend learning some of the basics of the language as it helps when ordering food and tickets at the train station. Thanks, Jim

HI Jim and Lisa It's been fun reading about your trip to Spain, my partner and I are going to Europe for 4 weeks in Sept spending 18 days in Spain. How did you find the language issue? We have been taking Spanish classes as some people have told us that not alot of English is spoken in some of the southern cities where we will be visiting - Cordoba, Granada Seville and Toledo. If you can recommend any good tapas bars, restaurants, etc it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Eating your way through the world...
Jim, Lisa, I'm really jealous, the food and, of course, the locations, are fabulous. I'm in the hunt for the fixins for the Obama inaugural luncheon for Max's birthday next weekend. Pictures will tell the story... Such fun to follow the travels, thanks.

Wait a minute folks!
I have to say that the single comment about being "too early for a beer" got more comments than anything else we have posted. For the beer club folks, wait until we talk about how they pour beer here!!! You will be very upset. We hope you are enjoying the blog and we look forward to sharing more with you. We can't put everything in here because there is just too much that happens each day. We will share more when we see each other again. Lisa

Whew!!
Thanks for the explanation Jim. The world is back on its axis....Happy Vino Tinto!!
25th March 2009

It is never too early for a beer
OK, ok, ok, the museo de jamon has got me a little out of my element. Keep in mind the beer is not what I get at home so there are times when I have to admit it is too early for a light lager! That is when I have a vino tinto (red wine), or a whisky. Still longing for a hoppy beer, next trip I need to bring along a small bottle of hop oil just so I can taste a little of home. Cheers, Jim
